While the will of the voters is important, it should not be the defining factor when a political representative, Republican OR Democrat makes a decision to vote against the will of the people. They are SUPPOSED to vote what they feel in their hearts and minds is best for our country as a whole. Most of the voters feel that there should not be gay marriage, but am not calling Democrats obstructionist because they aren't voting for the will of the people just because I don't agree with them.

The GOP is now the Loyal Opposition. In our setup, the LO is always somewhat obstructionist, but that's okay because the whole country usually doesn't hold the same view. But they risk becoming irrelevant and marginal for a time if they continue to oppose legislation and views that near 3/4 of the country agree on (Iraq being a key one).

Yes - and the rest is to another answer here.

1. So, why do only a third of Americans approve of the President's job?

Gay marriage? Should that really be a huge part of the Government's agenda? Why can't they just leave it up to Churches, who can decide to marry whom ever they want. The Catholic Church already rejects many marriages based on their doctrine. No one is saying that anyone except the Government has to recognize gay marriage so they can have the same LEGAL rights as straight married couples.

Low taxes? Low taxes for who? For Corporations maybe? The Fed just cut interest rates for corporations rather than mortgage rates.

You have no right to gerneralize about what anyone wants but yourself, unless you have numbers to back up your claimes.

The will of the voters be damned. This is not a democracy!!! We elect people who will be privey to facts that we cannot know and to make decisions based on those facts. We may not understand every decision but until we have "proof" otherwise, we have to trust their decisions.

Being mindful that most of the current low poll numbers in congress can be correlated to the low poll numbers in the home states of GOP congressional representatives and senators who are up for re-election next year.
