She ignores me and is mean to me, and enjoys her power trips when their is any kind of bad news in my life. If there is good news she gets mad. How do you kind let someone know you cannot stand them or that they mean NOTHING to you but in a discreet way? I have other in laws that I do not want to hurt.

Sounds like she is an attention junkie that likes to create drama.
Ignore her as much as possible and whenever she makes a snotty comments, gossips or brags on herself, act like you didn't even hear what she said and change the subject and sound very upbeat about whatever you are talking about.
If she can't get a rise out of you and her attempts at creating drama are non-events she will grow bored with trying to taunt you and move on to someone else.

It wont be impolite to bypass the hen night yet be on the marriage on your brothers sake. in a well mannered way tell her that if there's a topic including your little ones you may delight in it if she could seek advice from you or your husband approximately it, incredibly than telling them off. based on what you said she is doing negative things against you..if you do the same then you will be on her level...don't put yourself down to her level..heads up and just smile in whatever she said...as long as you know the truth and you are not hurting anyone then you will have a peaceful life.besides she will be annoyed surely that you are not affected on what she's doing against you..and if you have a positive outlook in life..no need in explaining yourself..people will see the good inside of you...the truth will prevail!

You seriously just have to deal with it. That's part of being an adult. It really sucks, but it's better to have one douche bag than a whole gaggle! LOL

since it's family you should try to get along with her at family functions by this i mean be polite but the rest of the time just avoid her she is not going to change and since you do not want to hurt the others that is about all you can do
