Well you need to practice shooting in general it sounds like. But mainly work on your jump shot.. work out gettin as high as you can on your jump but still having full control of your shot. Also if you can you should try to keep youre elbows as high as you can and release the shot from the highest point you can comfortably shoot from. Main thing is though is practice practice practice... my jumper is only good because one summer I went like 120 days in a row and played 2-3 hours bymyself just shooting jumpers/grabbin my own rebound. Best thing you can do is just practice more... start without a defender... then get a friend or teammate to help you have them just stand in a defensive stance then you shoot over them. Once you get used to that, have then reach there hands up and stand in place. Once your used to that have them try to fully defend you by blocking or whatever need be done. Playing 1v1 is a really good way to practice this aswell.

first of all, slow down when your dribbling because you can't do nothing without the ball, learn to dribble with your weakest hand. in other words if your right handed, learn to dribble with your left like all good point guards or baskeyball players if the defender doesn't have a specific weakness to pin point about your game then what can they do? also how tall are you? it will be hard for a shorter person to shoot over taller people regardless, but that's why you have to learn to create shots for yourself, running around constantly, using picks, or stop and pop. have spots on the court that you feel comfortable at. practice these spots all the time by yourself go to the park or something and just shoot shots from those spots all day then when you get into the real game it will be like clock work, it will not matter if a defender is in your face or not. I'm not saying you are going to make all your shots, but your confidence will be much greater and that will make your game better, then mix it up drive in sometimes, and shoot it sometimes, then the game will come to you because when they play you close because your shooting outside shots, it enables you to drive and dish or drive and shoot. then when they play back because they don't want you to drive to the lane shoot the jumper. yeah i know now you can already began to picture yourself getting better just from reading this, it works i don't have the best game in the world but i know that i can change the game when i'm in it, look at all the great basketball players or even decent ones, they're not one dimentional is what i'm saying practice at that and let me know how it works out for you. also adding these items to your game goes good with your quickness, personally when i play ball i hate those liitle quick people that be every dam where, but that's called using your skills. Be like nike and just do it

Shooting on the run is definitely something that has to come with practice. If you aren't running towards the basket, but from side to side, when you're going up to shoot, you have to make sure that you're square with the basket. You have to make sure that you're facing the basket, as much as possible. That will help you get shot shot off. As for shooting it over the defender, it's tough, especially if you do have the height. I would suggest to start shooting with ankle weights on, this will ultimately make you jump higher while shooting a jump shot, and will help you jump high. Another thing is to work on your release. The thing to aim for is to release the basketball at the apex of your jump. Which means, release the basketball when you are at your highest during your jump. If you release it on your way up or on the way down, it will be more easily blocked. Also, if you shoot the ball at or around the same level as your head, it will be blocked easily. Try to shoot it over your head, it'll help. The mechanics of your shot will dictate a lot of the chance of it being blocked. I hope this helped!

Half of shooting is legs. You need to rise when you shoot. That's why it's called a "jumpshot". If you just have problems shooting regularly, then practice shooting as much as you can at home. Make sure to get a good base, square up, and follow through with your shot. You must get a good backspin on the ball. Now, if you're having trouble shooting over defenders, here's something you can do. Get a friend and tell him/her to stand right in front of you with his/her arm in your face. Stand about a foot away from that person and just rise up and shoot. It will help you shoot contested shots a lot better. Good luck.

You have to square -up to the basket when you shoot. It sounds like you are releasing the shot before you come to a complete stop, square-up, and release the shot. It is really difficult to shoot accurately on the move while rushing your shot. You don't have to slow down and think about it, just make sure you are facing the basket and your feet come down in the exact same spot as where you started the shot.

look at the back inside of the rim as you go up and slow down and focus when you shoot, youre not supposed to go at full speed, stop, and pull up because it does affect shot accuracy. and try arching the ball, it helps you shoot over people alot taller. i had the same problem when i was 13 but i perfected my shot last summer and i arch the ball and focus in on the rim. so you can hit jumpers with a defender guarding you.

If you're quick, make use of a good head fake or ball fake. Have the big guy jump out of his shoes to block a nonexistent shot.
Or, break his ankles with a killer crossover since you have a good handle. You can then either blow by him or hit the pull-up J. He will be so embarrassed he won't try to mess with you anymore.
This is YOUR house!

You should shoot over your head, that helps.
Bend your legs, and just keep practicing.
