Far too many Americans get their information from drug addicts like Limbaugh, cowards like O'Reilly, and propaganda machines like FOX and talk radio.
People no longer think, they repeat what they saw or heard on tv and radio.
Liberals made this country.
Without liberal legislation we would not have:
Child labor protection
Disability protection
Civil rights protection
Discrimination laws
Head Start
Right to work laws
Workmen's compensation
Free public education
Social Security
Job protection laws
Anti sexual harrassment laws
Safe working conditions laws
And much, much more.
Conservatives used to have a plan to
"starve the beast" which meant make government small so that social programs could be cut.
This was a plan to counteract laws put into effect by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Starving ther beast, in today's terms, means cutting programs that help, for example:
returning veterans...see Walter Reed disaster
and also returning veterans job protection erosion under this administration;
cuts in FEMA ... a failure which once had some capacity to help those in disasters.
cuts in hurricane information gathering (I hope Florida notes that one,)
a revamping of the bankruptcy laws making it
much harder for those who lose almost everything
(usually because of unbearable medical bills) to get themselves out from under through bankruptcy
protection.
Please note that this new bankuptcy protection does not affect corporate bankruptcy!
What's amazing is how many people know nothing about how this country was formed and built ... and by whom.
Conservative today means people following thoughts, ideals, values, etc. that they did not figure out for themselves but rather that they swallowed whole from some "tough" man or woman, making millions on tv, radio, books, speeches, and laughing at the fools who pay and listen.
Crikey. What a dumb mess.

Are you serious? At first I thought you were just trolling - but I have a feeling you really believe yourself.
Demonizing people that don't agree with your own personal views isn't really all that 'kind hearted', 'open minded', or much for a persons 'freedoms such as speech' now is it?
Hypocrite.
I'm conservative in a lot of my views and liberal in a lot of others. But I don't throw in with either party being the only way. I prefer to think for myself and not blindly follow either major party. You are doing nothing but weakening your own Liberal label by deriding everyone that doesn't agree with you as being 'closed minded' and everything else. But at least you are showing your true colors.
To seriously answer your question though: a lot of people are tired of what the conspiracy nuts and other fringe activists have done to the Liberal label.
Just like the people that will rate this response down, you aren't interested in hearing other people's views if they don't agree with your own. But the reality is the current president was elected into office not once, but twice. Not everyone shares your personal views and that doesn't make them evil - get over it.

Because Republicans have spent the last 27 years confabulating the term liberal with libertine, and have ascribed every negative adjective and attribute in the book to liberals through their assertions and strawman arguments.
The result is that Republicans have redefined "liberal" as a pejorative, and many liberals shun the label because of its falsely negative connotations.

I think the conservatives have done a very good PR job demonizing the word "liberal". That seems strange because many of the things liberals stand for are the same as the old Republican party which stood for less government. Now it seems like they want to inject themselves into every part of our personal lives. Even though I might not personally want someone's lifestyle for myself, I don't think it is government's job to inject themselves into our personal behavior (short of the crime situations of course)

When we fail we will let you know. There will always be a % that are dolts but not that many here. Most people here are doing as well as they want. When you get older and wiser you will/may begin to understand. Peace Your college remark is all hooey because one goes to college to learn to think at a higher level and if it leeds to a good career all the better.

To a radical on the right everyone is liberal who doesn't agree with them to the letter. Many who are moderates don't exactly consider themselves liberals or conservatives. Maybe they lean one way or the other but hard core nope. Only radicals on the left thing anyone even slightly to the right is a conservative and to those on the radical right andyone even slightly to their left is a Communist Socialist liberal. Nothing could be farther from the truth in both cases. Most people are moderates with slight leanings one way or the other.

I have no idea... but it's realy bizarre- nowhere else in the world would "Liberal" be considered an insult. In fact I am sure in other Western countries it is more the other way around- being Liberal is far more socially acceptable, being conservative makes people suspect you are a bit of a d*ck.

I do not define myself as Conservative or Liberal. They are too rigid for me. I consider myself an independant thinker, but do not align myself with the Independant political party.

Most voting Democrats aren't liberal.
They don't agree with aborsion, Don't see gay rights as an issue. And don't agree with Senator Ted. Nor do we hold for legalizing poisonous drugs.
Most Democrats believe God.
