About a week and a half ago my daughter got a really stuffy nose, cough, and fever hovering around 100.5. A couple days later she wasn't getting any better, so I took her to the doctor, who said she just had a summer cold, and gave her some medicine for sleeping. It has been almost 2 weeks since she first got sick, and she is tons better. No fever, no coughing, and sleeping through the night. However, she can't get rid of the runny/stuffy nose. When she sneezes, snot shoots out. Usually it is clear, but everyonce in a while, it will be a slight yellowish color (that is usually the first snot of the morning). It doesn't seem to bother her as much as it bother me. The doctor said to only come back if she gets worse, which she hasn't. Also, she is teething (she doesn't have any teeth :) ) she could that be not letting her nose clear up. Other than the nose, she is wonderful. Should I call the doctor, or wait till her 9 month check which is in two weeks?

I would wait because if it is viral then there is nothing they can do except let it run its course which may take a while. My son had a cough and cold all summer! Like two months!! he was at the doc every two weeks and we could not get rid of it, he was not getting better, only worse with fever. His doc referred him to an allergist and they ran all kinds of test and they found two types of fungus in his nose which was causing the sickness. They gave him a strong antibiotic that has worked wonders. It has been a long time since i have seen my son this well. As long as they are not getting worse then chock it up to a cold, there is no cure for that. If she starts getting worse, be persistent with the doctors because pediatricians are only trained to treat symptoms and they rarely run test to find out exactly what they are treating. She is fine as long as she does not get worse!

Try using a Vicks vaporizor in her room when she's sleeping - fill it up, pour some vicks vaposteam in it, add a little salt and let her sleep with that in her room - it always helps with my children's colds and congestion. My son is also just getting over a summer cold and it started getting better so I stopped using the vaporizor but he's starting to get runny nosed again so I may have to start using it again. I think it would be ok to wait till her 9 month check up unless she seems to start feeling worse.

In the morning you might also want to try using the bulb syringe and help get some of her snot out that way, unless she sneezes every morning and is getting it out.

Nose congestion is normal.. it could just be allergies. Does she sneeze a lot and have watery eyes? If so, it's allergies. You may want to ask your doctor for correct doses on some allergy medications. But it's also OK to just leave it alone and reserve the allergy medication for when your baby can't sleep at night because of all the sneezing and runny nose.

I would just wait til her check up @ 9m. If it's not bothering her she'll be fine until then. The best thing you can do is use some saline spray in her nose to break up the mucus ans then suction it out. My son is almost 1yr and he has troubles quite often with stuffy/runny noses. I have lots of problems with it myself and it's from my allergies. So unfortunately if she has this problem often or it lingers she may have allergies.

The yellow color snot could just be allergies. Call the nurse at the doctors office, there could be something over the counter to give to her. Then again the nurse may tell you to bring her on in, and run some test. Good Luck

you said shes inproved which is good. if u think shes getting worse at any time then take her back to doctors. children often have a snotty nose. there noses are very senastive to new smells hence the sneezing. it could be from anytime. dust/pollen/. as u say her snot is clear which is good. if snot is green that tells u she has a infection. trust ur mothers instinst.. i do..

She may be teething a babies nose will run when she is teething. At night if your house is warm and dry it could be causing the "snot" to dry up a bit. Try a dehumidifier. They work.

All 5 of mine went through the runny nose with teething. 2 of them also got slight diaper rash with teething and 1 constantly tugged at his ears when teething. If not accompanied by fever, diarhea, or difficulty breathing...I'd wait til her check-up appt.

The teething can cause it and she may have some allergies. I would wait unless the discharge changes color. Clear is okay, just not pleasant to have to deal with.

Let it wait. A cold can take a while to fully clear. Try using a humidifer in her room at night, it may help with the congestion.
