I just nurse him. Every 3 hours or so during the day, and then he sleeps 8-10 hours at night.

My grandson is 4 months old. He was born April 15. Right now, he is only breast fed. His mom, my oldest daughter, nurses him on demand. Generally he likes to eat every 2-3 hours until after his first afternoon nap then he'll be happy closer to every 3 hours. My daughter will be going back to work to her teaching job soon and I will be caring for him. She has been pumping and he drinks about 4 ounces of pumped milk every 2-3 hours when he isn't being breast fed. At his 4 month well baby check-up, his nurse practitioner said to try him on infant rice cereal to see if he is ready for it yet. They bought the cereal last night and my daughter is going to try him on it today. So, for now, he only has breast milk every 2-3 hours during the day. He has begun to sleep better at night and can go 4-7 hours at a stretch. Even if he does wake in the night, he can be nursed and go right back to sleep.

I fed him 5 oz every 3 hrs. I began oatmeal at 4mo also. Like twice a day then bumped it up to 3 times a day. The bottle that came after his oatmeal feeding would be only 4 oz.

At four months, my daughter was still strictly on breastmilk. I did introduce her to cereal shortly thereafter, after her shots that month. Start with a very small amount mixed with formula or breastmilk. I've never put cereal in her bottle, always spoon fed, even when it was thin. If your baby pushes the cereal right back out of his/her mouth when you put it in, however, they're not developmentally ready to eat solids and you should wait another week or two.

With my baby boy, I fed him whatever amounts he seemed to want to eat, and every 2-4 hours depending on when he wanted to eat. I breastfed to 6 mos. until he refused and supplemented with formula as needed (didn't have enough supply even though pumping too). By four months, was eating cereal as well. Checking with your doc would be good. My understanding was 8 oz. every two-four hours, but my boy ate MUCH more than that. Depends on the child, though you want to be careful if your baby isn't hungry and/or isn't gaining enough weight, etc.
