Ok, I received an email about this and my daughter brought home a newsletter from school about it, so I was just wondering if it was true...

On Monday, August 27, 2007, two moons will rise in
the
midnight sky. Starting in August, the planet Mars
will be the brightest object in the night sky, and
will look as large as a full moon to the naked eye.
This will culminate on Monday, August 27th, when Mars
comes within 34.65 million miles of Earth.

Be sure to watch the sky on Monday, August 27th from
midnight to 12:30A.M. It will look like the Earth has
two moons.

***The next time Mars comes this close to Earth will
be in the year 2287.

Don't miss this once in a lifetime spectacular
event!!!

I have searched online and came upon this website that states it is all a host: http://www.snopes.com/science/mars.asp

So, what do you think?

Error .. . . .

Host = Incorrect
Hoax = Correct

Yes, Mars will be the largest size in a long time because the Orbit of Mars and the orbit of Earth will be at a point where the two planets are the closest possible point in a very long time.

However, the there is no possible way for both the Moon and Mars to appear to be the same size in the night sky.

1.) The Moon is 2,159 Miles in Diameter.
2.) Mars is 4,220 Miles in Diameter.

3.) The Moon is 240,000 Miles from the Earth.
4.) Mars is 141.6 Million Miles from the SUN.
Earth is 93 Million Miles from the SUN.
So, 141.6 minus 93 = 48.6 Million Miles of distance
between the Earth and Mars at the closest apporach,
roughly.

5.) So something twice as big as the Moon is going to be located in the sky that is 192 times farther away than the Moon is...That means that the planet Mars might look to be smaller than the size of little pencil eraser, while the Moon appears to be as big as a baseball. You will **not** see two equal size Moons in the sky.

The school gave out a handout about this..!?!?! Good GAWD..! Don't know what share of your taxes go to your schools, but whatever it is it's too much : (

It *is* a hoax. False. Untrue. A lie. Not so. Mars has never been so close to Earth as to appear as large as our moon, nor will it ever get that close.

No very own residing house page or database. in case you elect truly some those issues, you're able to opt to apply low-priced internet internet hosting. you are able to attempt the two hostgator, fatcow or myhosting.
