Good question. In theory, this should be an issue both pro-life and pro-choice individuals should be able to unite behind. Since birth control pills prevent pregnancy they also prevent abortions. No ovulation, no baby, no abortion. Makes sense to me.
The point behind government subsidized birth-control on college campuses was that not all college students are still covered under their parents insurance so they would probably not be able to cover the cost of the contraceptives on their own. And unless I am mistaken college students are probably one of the most sexually active populations on the planet as well as the poorest. So, providing discounted birth control on the cheap to students would, in my mind, decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies, and therefore abortions. This policy allows students (especially women) to maintain their reproductive freedoms (pro-choice) as well as preventing the unnecessary deaths of any fetuses (pro-life)
Just a thought.

It's such an easy response for conservatives to blame it on liberals for blaming it on conservatives. Raising birth control prices will result in more abortions, which you conservatives are also against. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. And yes, people COULD stop having sex, but why should they have to? Not everyone leads a Christian life that doesn't believe in anything, like birth control. Also, abortion isn't "murder" unless it's at the end of the second trimester, so no one, not even the "innocent child," is being harmed, because it's not a child yet. But I believe in personal responsibility and I'm a realist, and the governent should stop trying to run the lives of others.
Here come the thumbs down...

Nope, they won't. They live in a fantasy world where college students will abstain from sex if they can't afford birth control and will 'take responsibility for their actions" if they don't abstain. What they fail to recognize is that MORE abortions will be performed if less birth control is available. In other words, they want to have their cake and eat it, too.

"birth control prices on campus will increase an average of 300%" That's significant only if the price was high to begin with. If a pack o' pills costs a dollar, you're now paying $3. What's the big deal? Further, if these kids are in college they are still very likely to be supported financially by their parents. The parents or their insurance pay for the inexpensive birth control.
Still, why should 'I' pay for his or her medicine or condoms? Where is that in the Constitution? Where is that in the congress' authority? You are YOUR responsibility. The fact that you have gotten pregnant, regardless of the reason is YOUR responsibility. That child is also now your responsibility. Your preference to buy a bag of popcorn rather than a condom before you get laid is NOT my responsibility and it is NOT an excuse for you to have an abortion. This incredibly self serving and self interested attitude never ceases to amaze me.

ah, the old self loathing 'keep your legs closed' argument. I always love to hear that from a woman. Don't they realize you can get pregnant with a nickle between your knees and two feet on the ground? Anyhow, the argument from a RTL standpoint (I know because I just had 14 hours of training on it) is that birth control is the same as abortion. So it doesn't bother them one bit.

i just wish the people in those types of groups and the bush administration would open their eyes to the fact that college students have sex and that it is better for them to do so with condoms on to prevent the majority of abortion cases they are so against than for the students to get pregnant
the fact the abstinence message does not work as shown but the aids initiative in africa where during the bush administrations time condoms have not been distributed and instead the only talk is about abstinence and the hiv/aids rate in africa has not decreased as it did under the Clinton administration where the same initiative was undertaken only while promoting condom use

Federally funded birth control would ultimately result in more Abortions because it would pay the young peoples Abortions for free, and promote unlimited sex.
The only true form of birth control is abstinence.
All others fail.
EDIT:
Great question, Robert M.
Shame that Liberals have stooped so low as to take the life of the innocent.
God help America.

People must live with the consequences of their actions, even if that means paying for their own birth control. Why does paying for your own stuff bother you? Whats wrong with having personal responsibility? Keep my tax dollars out of people's bed rooms.

What we need on college campuses is education not birth control. If one is educated not to need birth control in the first place the point would be moot.

You make it sound like it's an issue of "if they don't have this, they will die".
The is a simple solution, they can put a dime between their legs and hold it there.
What happened to a society that considered the consequences of their actions first instead of last?
