My son started walking well at 9 months and talking in sentences by the time he was 14 months....he was always way ahead of where the Dr said he should be. I dont know if it has anything to do with it, but hes now 11 and has been in gifted classes since 3rd grade. Hes in the top 1% of the nation! Hopefully it will mean the same for your child :)

I think it might be considered advanced, my daughter started crawling at 6 months and started pulling up to stand a couple weeks later and I'm sure the way she's been going that she'll be walking by 8 1/2 months - she's trying to catch up to her big brother, he started walking at 9 1/2 months which I thought was early. Every baby is different.

Walking at 8 1/2 months is early but perfectly fine, you'll just be more busy!
Three word sentences at 14mths is great :) Keep up the good work. It's most likely too early to determine gifted status but he/she sounds like a smart cookie.

I was told that I could recite the twelve months of the year at 9 mos. but I did not walk until the age of two. Although it is fairly common for baby to walk or talk at an early age, I would think this particular baby is slightly ahead of the game, talking and walking at the same time.

All depends on the child. I have 3. My first kid walked not ttying but actual walking at 7 1/2 months.Where as my daughter who was born 13 months later walked at 11 months and my last waited till he was almost 13 months old.So it all depends on the child.I can honestly say I was blessed and cursed at the same time.LOL little hands in everything at that age was horrid!hehe U couldnt hardly see the top of his head when he walked but Boy could he go!!And as far as talking 2 of my children were very advanced in talking at age 13 months. So tell I say yay!!!

Every child is different . My son was walking/running at 9 months to the day while my daughter wouldn't even try until 11 1/2 months old.

That's the early side of normal I don't think it would be considered gifted, just intelligent. My son was a preemie and has talked very well since 9 months. Just depends on the child and how much you work with them.

No it doesnt make them "gifted". It means their brains are just developing at a faster rate than others. My son was walking at a year but he was talking wayyy sooner. It depends. Very rarely will children develpe mind and body at the same time. You may notice peaks and valleys in their development. One month they will be walking, the next month it will be all mental growth with little regard for the walking skill they learned the month before. So no hunny your baby aint gifted but you should enjoy the walking and talking!

No its not considered gifted, but your child is doing very well you should be very happy and proud he/she is a very fast learner but it is a common thing. My first daughter started to walk 2 weeks after her first birthday, my second daughter started when she was seven months, now the roles of learning are reversed and my first is an extremely fast learner(now 8 & 6)

It's the young end of normal.

But really, don't start trying to label your baby as "gifted" this young, all you'll do is get other mums' backs up. Let them be a baby, and develop at their own pace (which is likely to involve being early to do some things and late to do others). Time enough for "gifted" when they get to school and need it.
