It has been running great since I bought it, but today when I went out to start it, it wouldn't start. Even when I turn the ignition to On, no lights light up, and the power locks won't work. I am hoping it is just the battery, but wonder if the electrical problems that the monte carlo's are notorious for are starting up... any ideas? Comments? Advise?

It is probably just the battery. I strongly advise you to not even try jumping it, but if you do, be very careful. I would just get a new battery, because Chevrolet's W-Bodies (Impala, Monte Carlo) have very sensitive electrical systems, including the BCM (body control module) and PCM (powertrain control module). If you jump your car, you may end up frying one or both of them... If you end up frying them it will turn into a very expensive nightmare at the dealership.

Nothing comes to mind with common problems with these. GM cars are basically poor when it comes to alternators and their batteries are not exactly the strongest as they seem to last only 5 to 6 years. Try to jump start the motor first. If that doesn't work you and you are sure you have good connections to your electrical system, you have a burnt fusible link down on the starter or something else upstream of that. Once you get it started, get an AVR check done on the charging/starting system to determine what is wrong with it. Good luck.

2. if it still doesnt start or it only stays running for a limited amount of time like an hour or so, then check the alternator
