I don't think so. You have to remember that what is socially acceptable for women is not for men. For instance, when you see a woman kiss or hug another woman in a hello or goodbye situation nobody thinks anything about it. However, if you see two guys do that then those who observe this will probably think that they are gay. Also no one thinks any think about it when they see two females dancing together. But a red flag goes up in the mind of someone watching two men dance.
Of course there is the occupation prejudice as well. Women have entered the workforce in many traditional men's jobs. Construction workers, barbers, airplane pilots, etc. But what about the poor guy who works as a hair stylist, flight attendant, nurse, etc.? He is automatically branded as gay by most people.

i agree with sam s.
i think it is more obvious in gay guys because men overall (not being sexist here) are much more promiscuous and that masks the amount of lesbians out there.
i actually think that the 10% population statistics of gay people is wrong. i think there is around 25-40% homosexuals and much more bisexuals because people are very secretive when it comes to sexuality and won't admit to things

I am going to have to say its pretty even. It just seems like there are more gay men because a lot of the times it is more obvious with men. Not all of the time, but sometimes.

Since statistics are based on survey, where many people are wont to lie about facts, one can not always believe them to be true. From my own experience, there are more 'bi-curious' people, regardless of gender, than statistics would let you in on. It isn't so much a question of promiscuity, but the taboo related to sexual relations a person can have, thumped down through ages of religious intolerance and norms of morality.

I think people tend to judge men quicker that women on this issue, this why it seems there are more men than women who are homosexual.

It certainly seems that way. I think the statistics say it's roughly the same, but to my observation I think so.

I would have said men - because you tend to hear about it more but lately I've been discovering more and more lesbians around that have just been quietly leading their lives - not closeted but not in the limelight either.
