My friend Swim was wondering where do car dealerships tend to keep their car keys? And what kinda security does a dealership have?

He also wants to know where is the security guard located?

This is just hypothetical besides that the doesn't have the balls to do it. He wants to use a glass cutter to try gain access like that... Even though they probably use motion sensors.... He still thinks he wouldn't get caught though!? He plans to just drill the lock fast.. I doubt it would be that easy. Theres probably an alarm. Do you think you think it's possible cutting the glass with some sort of glass cutter?

I'm a Finance Manager at a dealership and our keys are kept in two separate places. Both places are monitored during the day and locked up tightly at night.

My suggestion is for your friend to find a real hobby instead of one thats going to lead him to a nice federal prison.

Get a life and quit thinking about jacking cars....

Damn kids!

They normally keep the keys on a key board with the keys matching the cars on the lots in small towns and generally they leave them in plain sight at the general manager's desk until time to lock up. Then, they have a lock box on the wall in the back of the building around the safe. In small towns they have no security guards, maybe a camera, and a alarm system that can be simply bipassed with an IQ of 2. The larger the town the more you have to deal with. (Lockbox key machines, security guards, fenced in cars etc.) So, find a really small town go into it at 7 a.m. and weazel around for a bathroom while watching where they have the keys. Then, walk around the building and find the big gray box where the large electrical wires are connected. Then, look down near the ground and find a little box with two little wires coming out that are generally labeled "security" how stupid. Later that night come back cut the wires knock on the glass door for the maintenance man to come to the door and tell him you forgot something. When he let's you in hit him in the head and go to the office and rip off the entire key box off the wall. Four screws hold it on the wall. Pry the box open then select your car or truck and go get it. Now, you are 18, you have breaking and entering, assault, simple theft, and grand theft. You start off at l8 and after one night you can walk free again 20-30 years later. What a wonderful life at 48 just 12 years till old age home. Oh what a wonderful life. Stay in school and go to college and be someone.

The keys are usually kept in a lock box, in the managers office, behind a locked door when he or she isn't there. I even seen some stored in a computerized thing, where they punch in a cose and the key comes out. Also, they probably do have an alarm system, and more than likely, there is a guard on site. I would guess, they would have cameras installed too.

George P answered correctly. Dealerships where I have lived also have the police patrol their lots more frequently for vandals doing damage to cars. Your friend sounds like he is heading for trouble.
