I typed my last question wrong, so I deleted it and I'll correct it here: How would I solve the following equation-
.40x + 65 - .65x = .55
?

Thanks so much!

.40x+65-.65x=55

Add .40x and -65x

105x+65=55

subtract 65 from both sides of the equation

105x=-10

Divide both sides of the equation with 105

x=10/105

To simplify the fraction divide both numerator and denomator
with 5

This gives us x=2/21

The anwsar to the problem is x=2/21 where as 2/21 can not be reduced any further.

combine like terms:

.40x - .65x = .55 - 65
-.25x = -64.45 -------divide both sides by -.25 and you get:

x=257.8

proof,
substitute x=257.8 into the original equation:

.40(257.8) + 65 - .65(257.8) = .55 ----- this is ALWAYS true

i think you forgot a decimal.

.40x+.65-.65x=.55 (combine your x's)
.65 - .25x = .55 (get like terms on one side)
.1 = .25x (divide both sides by .25)
.4=x (test your answer)

.40(.4) + .65 -.65(.4) = .55
.16 + .65 - .26 = .55
.55 = .55

:o) now.. go get a tutor, to help you with the rest.

.40x + 65 - .65x = .55

combine like terms:

.40x - .65x = -.25x

.55 - 65 = -64.45

So, here's your simplified equation:

-.25x = -64.45

Now, divide both sides by -.25, and you have:

x = 257.8

.40x + 65 - .65x = .55
or, x (.40 - .65) + 65 = .55
or, - .25x = .55 - 65
or, - .25x = - 64.45
or, x = -64.45/(- .25)
so, x = 257.8

x = 257.8 is the answer

first, combine last terms..
.40x - .65x = -.25x
then simplify..
-.25x + 65 = .55 +65
= -.25x = 65.55
answer:
x = 262.2

sorry, but Im not sure with my answer.. Im not that good at math..

.40x+65-.65x=.55
= (.40x-65x)=.55-65
= -.25x = -64.45
= x = -64.45/-.25
= x = 2.578

.4x + 65 - .65x = 55
.4x - .65x + 65 = .55
.4x -.65x = .55 - 65
-.25x = -64.45
x = -64.45 / -.25
x = 257.8

first you would subract .65x from 40x and get neg -.25x then you would subract 65 from .55 and get -64.45 so -.25x = -64.45
then you divide -64.45/.25 and x = 257.8
