They will never vow complete allegiance to America. To them, we are the "occupation," the invaders. We did not "rescue" them or "liberate" them. We simply came in with no understanding of their culture and demanded that they change their procedures to our methods, and set up a "dummy" government that is inept, unable to govern, and disliked by the Iraqi people.
The Insurgency came as a great surprise to Bush and his followers, since none of them, even Rumsfeld, seem to have cracked a history book to realize that other countries had tried to rule Iraq and had failed. Winston Churchill wrote long letters explaining the need for Britain to pull its forces from Iraq and, eventually, Britain did just that.
Just a small amount of reading would have shown Bush and the Iraq Study Group (a hilarious name for a group of fools) that Iraq is composed of various tribes nursing age-old animosities and, by removing the dictator, these animosities would flower like a magnolia tree in the springtime. Bush, Sr., was wise enough to know this and resist all efforts to invade Baghdad. But his son, George, did not listen to his father.
To expect Maliki to vow allegiance to the United States when the government there is composed of Shiites with long and established relationships with the Iranians, who are also Shiite, is asking for leopards to change their spots. It won't happen. It can't happen, and we are pouring billions of dollars and thousands of lives, including young Americans, into a black hole.

how could they? they're country was better off with Saddam running it because less people died each day and he had a grip on that country for a reason apparently, what he was doing wasn't right but after not knowing anything else, or any other way of life, and after almost 4 years of war tearing apart the country they did know, how would they be able to see America as anything other than an invader that put their country into disrepair?

Never. The Russians tried to subjugate Afganistan for twenty years, and all it did was kill their soldiers and waste money. Finally Russia leaves, the US backed group in Afganastan takes over, the Taliban, and the US invades within 10 years. People in Iraq have been fighting over religious beliefs for two thousand years, they will not stop now just because the US of A has rolled troops in. It's all a oil grab at the US taxpayers expense. What a cluster.

"We care for our people and our constitution and can find friends elsewhere," al-Maliki
Does that mean they will give their flowers and candy to someone else? At first I felt so connected to Iraq, but now I feel like a jilted lover...

I don't believe we ever asked for complete allegiance from Iraq, nor do I want it.
I'm glad the man said what he said. It shows a little backboneand kind of puts a damper on people saying he's our puppet.
I simply want him and his government to take advantage of their new constitution, work harder to unite his people and help us stabilize Iraq so we can bring the bulk of our troops home.

Excuse me, but the goal was never "complete allegiance to America", it was self-determination. You cannot force people to do anything they don't want to do. All we can do is offer them an opportunity to decide.
If they decide to dig up Saddam and re-elect him, that is the choice they will have to live with. If they chose to ally themselves with the US great if not, they have to live with that choice.
Their choice can bring the warm handshake of friendship from the US or a knuckle sandwich if they prefer to be our enemies. Same goes for any other country.

I'm inclined to suggest the time when hell freezes over, but that would be too easy. Perhaps the 'Second Coming', or that great day when the Cubs win the World Series. But more realistically it will be when George Bush fully understands how badly he's screwed the national pooch...which means never!
