How is this creating a dictator. Firstly these proposals have to be approved in a referendum - that means the people vote on the issue to see if it becomes law. Did you ever get a chance to decide what becomes law in your country? Did you get to decide if the constitution should be amended by the Patriot Act? Of course not.

Secondly, there will still be regular elections so if the people don't like Chavez then he will be voted out. Chavez has always said that he will only remain in power so long as the people want him in power.

the democracy in Venezuela is a lot better than in the US where people buy votes and senators!!!! You don't have a say in what your senators do or what your President does. See Patriot Act example above.

The democrats that love socialism don't care about Venezuela choosing a dictator, in fact they will cheer him on. Many did the same thing when Castro took over Cuba.

I love it when people accuse Bush of doing the same thing here. He better hurry, time is running out.
It's a shame we can't do a switch off and let the people that think Communism and socialism are so great with all the people who die daily just to be a part of our great nation.

It's funny that you say that, since Republicans are the ones who have hinted at giving Bush a third term. and, Republican president Bush has given himself near dictatorial powers following a national catastrophe. Bush would declare the national catastrophe himself. hmm... He can use these powers to stay in office indefinitely, and to delay elections. I am not making this up. You can read an analysis in conservative World Net Daily, and you can also find the presidential directive itself on the White House website.

There are lots of corrupt governments in the world.

Why are the oil producing ones highlighted by the US government?

Corporate opportunities?

Creating a dictator, huh? What do you think WE'RE doing? Let's worry about what's happening here, not in Venezuela.

The left of this country LOVE Chavez. They want socialism to replace capitalism and our free market society.

I hope Hillary doesn't hear about this...I could see her twisting it to make that into a campaign promise.
