Sure it is. I think most people want validation that their efforts are appreciated. I don't know about "always". That may be asking a lot from someone. We all get a little preoccupied with our own lives to stop and give someone a pat on the back.
When I am in a position to give someone praise, I try to do it as much as possible. I think to myself how I like to get it (does that make sense?)

For me it's more about equality. Sure, I like to feel appreciated at work, home, and with friends but it doesn't have to be for every little thing. It gets my panties in a bunch if I clean the bathroom and do the laundry and my hub. turns around and says "did you notice I put the dishes in the dishwasher?"
He needs to feel appreciated all of the time. I just need my above and beyond actions appreciated.
