Unfortunately it is built into me to be a Lions fan. I watched them in their last championship game. I was REALLY young, but I was there.

They will do good this year. The NFC is so bad any team could come out and be the NFC Champions. They are my sleeper pick this year. I think that most people over look the Lions. They are very solid running at the running back position. They have Kevin Jones who I think is very underrated running back. Even though he was hurt last year he got 8 touchdowns. Not only is Kevin a good running back is good receiving back too. Last year he had over 600 yards receiving. Also they added some very good backup running backs, Tatum Bell and TJ Duckett. They have a very good wide receiving core. Their wide receiver Roy Williams is outstanding. Last year he had over 1300 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was fourth in league in receptions. Mike Furrey is a very reliable receiver. Last year he had over 1000 yards and do not forget about their rookie Calvin Johnson. They could also get Dante Culpepper. Culpeper could help the Lions team a lot. The Lions are missing a quarterback who can get the job done. I believe if they sign Culpepeper that is what kind of quarterback they will get. As long as their defense can hang in there they will do alright. They have also got some people in the in the off-season who can really help their defense out. Travis Fisher is a very good corner back. They have also gotten a few more player like Corey Smith and Dewayne White. Also they are playing in the NFC the worse conference in the league. They are playing in the NFC North which is the worst division in football. I could see them go 4-2 or 5-1 in the division. If they do that then they are half way to making the playoffs. I think they will go 9-7 with a wildcard spot. If they can make the playoffs than they maybe they can get on a wining streak and win the Super Bowl like the Steelers in 2005.

As a lions fan that does see this team for what they are i would say theres a VERY slim chance and the reason i give them slim chance is only because there is always a team or 2 that come out of nowhere. And out of there 13 loses last year they were in 10 of those games late in the game. I think there biggest problem is they just don't know how to close out a game.

There offense does not suck like one of the previous answers indicated but there defense does i think they will lose some games 42-35 and maybe win a few like that.

And don't forget the NFC north is very weak. There is no team far above the rest not even Chicago there offense is the worst in the north and there defense is a step back from last year.

So i hope for a 8-8 season but think 7-9 or 6-10

The Lions have sucked in the past but if you really look at the Lions' roster, they have ALOT of potential offensively.

Jon Kitna is a good QB, Tatum Bell is a fast little SOB, you got Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson as your receivers. That is a truckload of talent on the offensive side of the ball. Besides, ya'll have Mike Martz running the offense and anybody who knows anything about Mike Martz knows that he knows how to get his offense to score points. He was the Offensive Coordinator when St. Louis won their Championship in 2000.

If Detroits defense could match up to the offense's potential, they could be a playoff team.

i think so, there only hold back is the bears and they took heavy losses in the off season. The vickings are looking allright i guess, but i think the NFC north is getting closer to an even keel.

Detriot doesnt have a GREAT chance but because they are getting better and the bears are getting worse there is a level of even-ness that is being reached in that division.

I dont think that the NFC north will get a wild card though... so im pretty sure that the Lions had better lock the division if they want to go to the playoffs

P.S. I add this in after reading the guys response above me... hey dumb *** detriot IS the lions you Moe-Moe... she wasnt asking about the vickings... and WTF would you know anyways, do any of you people actually FALLOW football, or just regurgitate what you hear sportscenter say

No. They have all the same weaknesses of last year. Bad OL, defense, and Kevin Jones is still hurt. Calvin Johnson wont help that much because they had a good passing game last season.

Here comes another 5-11 season.

They may have a really good receiving corps this year. I'm not sold on the QB situation. Unfortunately their offensive line isn't very good. Which should prevent them from any playoff run. They need to build up their lines now that they've been drafting WRs for 10 years.

Nine wins should get a wild card

Tavaris Jackson doesn't inspire much confidence and both Favre and Grossman are lethal weapons aimed directly at the Packers and Bears so 4-6 division wins is possible.

I don't see them beating either Dallas or Philadelphia but the Giants and Redskins both look pretty beatable.

The Cardinals and Bucs both are vulnerable.

This leaves the AFC West. I don't see them beating either San Diego or Denver but Kansas City and Oakland look doable.

So, 9 wins is possible but it is a VERY long shot!
6-7 seems more likely.

I don't,but take this tidbit from a Packer fan :The Lions will win on Thanksgiving Day against the Pack, because the Lions always play out of their heads on Thanksgiving, especially against the Packers.

They're in the weakest conference in football right now, so maybe. I think they will probably finish 2nd in the conference to the Bears, but if the Bears collapse or have a couple of major injuries, the Lions definitely have a chance.

Perhaps the Bears, Packers, and Lions could all die in simultaneous plane crashes thereby guaranteeing entry into the playoffs. Other than that, not so much.
