People bank their money because they KNOW life is not predictable. It is safer at a bank than on your person or in your home, and at the bank, it earns interest, which it can not do in your pocket. Plus, when it's in the bank, and a bit out of reach, it is a bit harder to spend it. It takes discipline, and recalling the lessons of people who have been careless with money, or have lived in poverty. Learn from others and be wise.

Safety. If you get laid off from your job, then you have a cushion in the bank. Some people have enough money that they can choose whether or not they want to work. Also, you will have less money in retirement, so it is good to save money to guarantee you have a decent life style. There are many elderly people who can not afford to ever eat out or go to a movie.

Some people bank their money to save up for a down payment on a house. Saving money is a wise thing if you can do it.

If you know the ocean is wide and unpredictable, you could just stay on shore (hide your money in your mattress) But if you want to get somewhere, financial freedom, you don't stay on shore; you chart your course across your ocean to your destination, or you'll get hopelessly lost. People who use a bank, are charting their course through life's stormy financial seas.

My money is placed in my bank account automatically through social security cause they are out of state and electronically deposit my funds in my account...
They do not send me checks or cash, so it is set up that my disability money is deposited in my bank so I can then use it from that point...
I also have other items that get paid through my bank with insurance and medical bills and funeral expenses that I can not do without a bank cause most debts have their main offices either out of my city or out of state...
