Yes, judging by the way many questions are written in YA people have forgotten how to write in English.

I think you can introduce them to classics early. My daughter is 10 and I'm reading the original Frankenstein to her. This way I can explain some of the archaic words and phrases. We then talk about what happened, how characters are feeling, what may happen next, etc.

Here in Australia, students in middle school ( 14/15 year olds)
start reading some of the so called classics of literature. It is dependent on their ability in English. As a school girl myself many years ago, we read Shakespeare's Macbeth when I was 15 but I can't honestly say that at that age, young people understand all the different layers and themes that often are found in such classics. I have re-read most of these books as an adult and found much more understanding of the characters and themes.

No, I think they are worthless. I have heard that some schools teach latin in elementary school because it increases vocabulary, but I think they should teach romance language if they are going to do that and then at least the students will have a useful language.

11th and 12th grade read classics, in regular and AP classes. However regular classes the reading was a bit easier. 11th was American classics and 12th was British classics (at least that's how it was in my school).

Yeah some of them and they should start at Elementary school. As long as it is taught right the younger children learn faster and would benefit from the lessons learned.
