When i was pregnant last year my nurse said to take two flinstone vitamins they have the same folic acid as prenatal plus eveything else. I've been readying women are only taking 400mcg of it. Should i cut back to one pill instead of two? Each pill contains 400mcg's.

My insurance doesn't cover prenatal that is why i have been taking the children's flinstone.

No, that is the recommended amount for pregnant women I believe and excess folic acid will not hurt you.

Prenatals cost the same at walmart as flinstones. So thats not right. I know because I was taking prenatals, but the iron was too much to I had to switch to flinstones.

Folic acid is used to most before you get pregnant and in the first 4 weeks. after that all you need you actually get from fortified cereals and other foods.

400mcg is the recommended daily amount to be taken before conceiving. 800mcg is too much! To be on the safe side, ask your gynaecologist.

I would speak to a pharmacist or gp as the regular dose for pregnancy is 400 like you say.
