If the first Harry Potter book (Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone) takes place in 1990-1997,and the last Harry Potter book (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) takes place in 1997-1998, how could there be a Nimbus 2000 and 2001? I really don't get it.

Sorry, I meant the first book was from 1990-1991, not 1997.

It doesn't necessarily match with what year the story was supposed to have been written. They're just model numbers like a Comet 360 (is that supposed to be from year 360?). 2000 have a ring of magnificence in it, doesn't it?

Well I think that Nimbus 2000 flows better than Nimbus 1997. Maybe it doesn't imply the year it was made. It could be the # of spells used to get it off the ground. Its called poetic license. Its not always logical. Try searching some of the Harry Potter fan sites. A fan may have asked JK Rowling that before.

A lot of people (such as Century 21-as stated in other answers) tend to use futuristic dates. Plus, many people in the 90's were always calling items by the "2000's" because that date was the new century, and it was only coming around in about a decade. JKRowling might have gotten that same idea. Another point is, doesn't it just overall sound better Nimbus 2000 rater than Nimbus 1990?
I hope I helped!

everyone and their uncle used the term 2000 for products in the 90s... it's BECAUSE it was before the year 2000 they used it. being in, say, 1995 and hearing a product billed as "2000" meant it was so new and advanced and way ahead of things (lie). Kinda similar to century 21 real estate. Kinda screwed now.

In the same way as the real estate company has called itself Century 21 since the 1900's.
