It depends on the type of story. It could be about an orphan girl's life.Or a girl who has to be a pirate or a runaway slave.
And it's usually an interesting life that gets somebody's attention.Boring books are meant for boring people.
If the book is very interesting, and the girl doesn't have an average and boring life, a lot of people are likely to read it.
If it is about a girl's average life with 1 or 2 ups and downs, no one is likely to read it.

Girls and women, maybe some boys.
Two excellent series that cover "a girls childhood and teenage years" are the "Little House" books and the "Anne of Green Gables" books. Girls have been enjoying these delightful stories for decades. Many girls grow up and still cherish these books as adults as well. A well-written book about growing up is always promising.

Depends on the story. Look at "The Lovely Bones," by Alice Siebold. It's about a young girl's life (and death) but the audience is very wide and varied.

That depends on exactly what you are going to say about that girl and how much it rings true. Pax - C
