I don't think that there are many American surnames, except perhaps for the Native American ones. The custom of using surnames was well in place before America was colonized.

Neither English nor American. Beaumont is a French surname. It is actually of Norman orgin but it was introduced during the Conquest of England in 1066. Just like Purcifer and other last names.

Sorry - don't even klnow if Native Americans have surnames - all other surnames have to have their origins in other places therefore are there really any american ones?
