Jody D's right on the money! A cooling system pressure check is the best test because it involves testing the cooling system only. The special hand held pump and gage should hold 15 psi. overnight. If not internal and or internal leakage problems exist. If it has a head gasket problem have the head checked for flatness and re-machine flat if necessary.
To test motor oil for antifreeze the special water sticks are hard to find. Compression tests are are iffy because of the overall condition of the rings valves and piston rings. Heat expands cracks any you'll be compression testing a cold motor.

General indications of a cracked or damaged head or head gasket is the presence of oil in the water,or visa versa. You cant miss it when the water has gotten into the oil as the oil turns into a foul gray milkshake looking mess.Oil in the coolant is also quite obvious. You will perhaps notice a loss of power, uneven running.plugs fouling, and even in some cases water coming from the exhaust(not to be confused with condensate present when you first start the motor)

A coolant pressure test and a cylinder compression test.
Driving it around above H is a great way to kill the engine. At the very least, you have damaged the cylinder walls and they will start to burn oil. You can bet that you have warped the head too.

The only way to crack a head is by driving it over heated for some period of time. Usually this will cause the head gasket to break, before any actual head damage occurs.
When the gasket is damaged, you can check your oil and you will see antifreeze mixed in with the oil. It will appear milky white.

If one of the plugs is fouled with coolant it might indicate head damage or gasket leakage. Water in the oil pan also might.

Compression check on each cylinder might also give you a clue.
