I would say much of the idea is based in fact, while like most other similar stories, some of it is also based in fiction.

At this point in time preliminary discussions are well under way. The 3 nations are working out details before taking the agreement to their respective Governments for any "final" approval. The hardest sell will be up here in Canada as we have a minority Government at present and if the final agreement involves any loss of our sovereignty there is no way it will pass into law. Hopefully we have learned our lesson from the original "Free Trade" deal because this deal is even more involved and it took years to resolve the softwood lumber dispute as well as other things that arose. And if the response of the past is any indication, the only free part of this trade deal is the US rejecting resolutions to disputes that go against the US and refusing to pay up. Like I said, the hardest sell will be up here as we have the oil, natural resources, fresh water that the US will be needing in the future and I can only hope that our Government up here doesn't try to sell us out.

Fiction being "spun" as fact.

A lot of the so-called "references" to the NAU are those from paranoid activists who base their assumptions on heresay and conjecture. There is no objective source with any credible evidence to support the NAU myth.

The so-called "expert" behind this conspiracy theory happened to be involved in the Swift Boat campaign during the 04 elections.

It is neither at this point, but it could be coming. I suggest you do a lot reading on the subject and decide for yourself. In fact you could do a search for questions on the North American Union or NAU and probably find quite a few questions about it and links for information. Also search for SPP.

I see a lot on Y!A about that but nowhere else. I will say it's fiction but am keeping an open mind.
