Think of bandwidth as water pipes or water channels. The bigger the pipe the faster things will happen. The fallacy is this is that you may be sharing your huge pipeline with 20 other people. Cable modems have this problem.

Bandwidth and speed are the same thing. Bandwidth is a word that, literally, means the maximum speed of a data connection, measured in bits per second. So it should be obvious how bandwidth affects speed and downloads.

As for graphics, well that's something totally different. The first 2 refer to network data, but bandwidth could be used in reference to any movement of data - including that between the graphics card and the CPU. So I suppose bandwidth affects graphics because it allows for video cards which process graphics faster, due to better communication with the CPU. But in this context, it's not related to the bandwidth of the network connection.

Picture bandwidth like flowing water.
If you take a Fire Hydrant and connect a 1/4" tube to it and turn it on for one minute, only a small amount of water will be released through the tube. Now if you change that to a 3 inch fire hose a whole lot more water will flow during the same TIME frame.

There is alot more "bandwidth" available with the larger hose thus more gets through it in the same time of use.

The same is true on the internet. If you use a 56k connection only a small amount of data is moved in one minute, Make that a 1.5 meg connection and a whole lot more data is moved within that same minute. Change that to a 5 meg connection and even more data is moved in the same minute etc. etc.

How does that affect downloads, the larger the hose the quicker you get the data, same is true with graphics because when they are sent on the web they are DATA bits.

The answer to that is yes and no. Obviously the speed of your internet is controlled by what comes through your outside wall. BUT where the others are missing the point is, if you have a very slow machine as regards a slow CPU speed [like 1.66 Ghz] and very little RAM [like 1 GB] then it is going to take longer to process that data as opposed to a machine that has a 3 Ghz CPU and 2 GB of RAM. Look at in reverse. You can have the fastest computer going [even with a go faster stripe if you like!] BUT if you have a speed of say 2 Mb/s then it is going to be as slow as hell! The reason it is faster with Chrome is because is is a bare minimum browser with no crap hanging on it unlike FF or IE 9 or the rest. I use IE 9 but I run it as a bare browser. Everything on it has been disabled or not installed like Tabs, Feeds, In Private, Web Slices, Filtering and all the other junk. That's what slows browsers down because all that extra crap takes longer to process!
