I think they should keep male and female blood separate and only put male blood in men and female blood in women. There could be estrogen or some other feminine hormones in the blood and men shouldn't have to deal with that. Plus, testosterone could be in the men's blood.

Relax, if you have had blood from the opposite gender you will be fine. I'm just being sexist. ;)

Actually, you're wrong. Before being used as a transfusion, the blood is carefully screened, removing all unnecessary chemicals and hormones.

Of course I would recieve a transfusion from the opposite gender, as long as it's my type.

Let me think..... If you were bleeding profusely and the only thing that could save you was to get a transfusion from a woman, would you take it? Let's just assume that they do keep all the blood separate, like in your perfect world, but all the men's blood has been used up from need. Would you be willing to contaminate with estrogen or other female hormones to save your life?

If you were dying, then it really wouldn't matter who the blood came from, just as long as it was the right blood type. Sure, there can be hormones in the blood, but not enough to really have an effect when blood from a woman is given to a man or blood from a man is given to a woman.

Actually, what they had me do a couple of days before the surgery, was go donate for myself. In case they needed it for me.

I thought that was cool

To answer the question, if I'm getting blood I'd have to assume someone else is making that decision.

I'd also have to assume that person would not ask, "Is is male or female blood?"

Once again you disagree with me, I sure would accept the blood if it was from a girl. As long as the blood type is the same as mine :)

I wouldn't accept blood from a hospital unless it was my own family's blood.

No....haven't you heard that a man donated blood to his wife and after some family disputes he wanted it back. She threw a bloody pad at him and said I will pay you in monthly installments.
