people always complain the video games, movies or animation too violent. but i find that toreador song is too violent. how can bizet romanticized bullfighting. it is cruel and brutal...

It's totally inhumane. Now, if the bulls were given swords & arrows to use it might be a little more fair ;-)

And I suppose stabbing Carmen at the end isn't? The opera was first performed in 1875. People had different attitudes towards bullfighting then. It is only in recent years that it has become abhorrent to many people. If you want to criticise someone, why not have a go at Hemingway who romanticised bullfighting long after Bizet was dead.

There is no violence in that aria - it is a song celebrating a profession. Of course you speak french so you know what the words in the aria actually say, yes?

Now you may disagree with the act of fighting the bull - but don't confuse that with an operatic aria. On radio there are rap and hip hop songs that positively celebrate direct acts of violence and ways of life that not only condone but thrive on the violence to and abusing and killing other human beings.

Let's keep our priorities here. If you want to complain about violence, let's start with violence against people. Gthe, perhaps, violence against animals. Complaining about an operatic aria? There have GOT to be more important things in your life.
