...would he be Lord Prince, or would he have to change his name?

If his only name is Prince, then he would be Lord Prince of somewhere-or-other. He would be known generally as Lord somewhere-or-other.

If he was knighted, he would be Sir Prince. As he is not subject to the Queen, the title would be honorary and he would not be able to use it. Bob Geldof has been knighted but he is Irish and so does not call himself Sir Bob.

If he name is legally Prince and the queen knighted him, then yes, he would be Lord Prince.

I do not know what a life peerage is.

Can't happen, you have to be a British or Irish citizen to be elevated to the peerage of the United Kingdom.

i might be wrong ,but i thought you had to be one of her subjects in order to be knighted.prince is an american.
