Evil Empire? Do you mean has our country been supporting the arms industry by promoting war in other countries and killing millions of people. YES. Do you mean the USA has made the most aggressive capitalist statment in history when it said it was GOING GLOABLE. Yes, they are going gloable after every natural and human resource of all the nations of the world. Seeking to buy or control the people, resources and governments of the world.
What would you call evil? Is it possible for the USA to be the Worlds Policemen and decide what country can use what technology and how they will use their natural resources.
I would call it evil but maybe I am wrong.

All great empires rise and fall. After the fall of the british empire it was Americas turn. America took over the world via hollywood, selling the dream in every corner of the world. Now the American empire is starting to make way for the new age of China.
edit: @ rerugged, how about asking the people of new orleans?

One could argue that periodically, it has. If you look at American foreign policy at the end of the Spanish American War, and especially after WW I in Central America, and more so on the world theater after WW II, you will see little respect for the less powerful countries that stood in the way of American corporate interests. The United Fruit Company in Central America, Oil Corporations in China after WWI, come to mind. And as for today, this is most accurate.
Oil and corporate profits have a lot to do with why we are in Iraq.

NO! There is evil all over the world. What our government is doing is trying to keep evil terrorist in check and out of our great nation. There has not been any other attacks on our soil since our government lead the initiative to fight terror. also this government of ours is not run by two people ( Bush & Cheney) parties on both sides are making the descisions of what our military forces do. One must ask themselves do you want battles fought here? I think not. World peace sounds nice but until the nature of man changes that seems unachievable. Our country also leads the world in humanitarian efforts and that includes the evil UN.

If the US were evil - would they have helped kicking out the Nazis in europe?
I don`t think so.

Not yet but hard on the way to, especially if they continue in the course they've chosen.
Most people in the US are of course ordinary people who just try to live their lives. But that is also true of other countries and empires, past and present. Its the governments, politicians and money spinners who dictate policy and war, then sell it in a neat little package to the people who voted for them, indoctrination and propaganda at its best.
And btw, the US is an empire due to their world wide economy and their strong military presence throughout the world.

No.
To be an empire America would have to be the authority over a bunch of countries.
And they just don't have that.

Even good is viewed as evil by your enemy.
No, we aren't. Sometimes it would seem that way but unfortunately we are involved in a very large and complex equation.
Keep doing what you do every day. This country is doing good things all over the world. Don't pay attention to only the negatives sensationalized by the media.
Don't worry, we'll be around for a long time.
