My best friend is 20 weeks pregnant with her 2nd child (1st is a girl). They have absolutely everything they need in terms of furniture, toys, clothes/sheets (except she will need 1 set boy sheets if its a boy and she wants to buy that only after the baby is born.)

I need help to find a unique practical gift for her and the baby for her shower. HELP!

Hi there,
My Dad deals in gems and jewelry. A popular buy has been a mother and child cameo, birthstone rings (Mother Father and Babies birthstones in the one ring) or a bracelet.

For my last daughter I was given a set of watches with the birth date engraved, for my partner and I.

Buy something for your friend not the baby. I am sure you know her well enough to get her something really special to mark the day.

I wish your friend a safe arrival and you all the best in picking a gift.

Are they having the baby christened? Why not buy the gown for that?

Why not make something yourself? A homemade quilt? A decoration for the room?

If they already have everything they need, it won't matter what you get.... maybe a really cute outfit or sleeper for the baby? Or get something a couple of sizes too big so that the baby will be able to wear it later on if they have enough clothes for the first couple months of the babies life..

Good luck, I'm sure you'll get the perfect gift :)

Diaper cakes are perfect for the baby who has everything, because they still need diapers no matter what. And this is the most adorable way to give them - it will be the most talked about gift at the baby shower for sure:

do up a basket containing things she is going to need for her hospital stay.
mini bottles of shampoo for her and baby shampoo, newborn diapers, a good novel, book of baby names, moisturizers, lip balm, hard candy, maxi pads, aroma therapy oils, a new comfy robe and slippers, a small teddy bear for the baby, socks for her and the baby, baby booties and anything else you can think of.

Why don't you make up a basket full of goodies - nappies, nursing pads, baby powder, creams and lotions, treats for mum. Make it as personal and as practicle as you can -
