Headaches are complex problems and there is no easy solution.

It is best to find out the source/cause of your recurrent or chronic headaches.

First, if this is the worst headache of your life or could be considered a thunderclap headache, or if you have a headache and neck rigidity (not stiffness) and or back pain, seek urgent medical care.

Otherwise, first try the simple solutions first I prefer Excedrin Migraine personally go to a darkened quiet room and lie down. Avoid bright lights and prolonged computer use. If you have a requirement to use comupters repetitively or constantly in association with your employment you may try getting a UV filter for the screen or if you wear glasses have a UV filter added to the lenses. Otherwise take frequent breaks from the screen if possible. Intersperse other desk work with the computer time if you can.

If you are having recurrent or chronic headaches you need to see a health care provider. They can pick the proper abortive medication for the acute headache and possibly prescribe a preventive medication if your headaches are too frequent.

If you feel you need to see a doctor, go to the following site prior to your visit:

www.headaches.org

In the consumer area, see the educational resources tab.

Print and fill out the headache diary as shown. The headache diary will help you isolate the timing of your headaches the symptoms and any other precipitating factor which you might be missing (in addition to the visual stimulation from computer, flourescent lighting. bright ligt, etc.)

See the How to talk to your headache doctor page.

I also recommend the pages on analgesic rebound, and diet.

Do not take Imitrex of any one else’s migraine medication without a health care provider’s approval.

I have seen patients with severe hypertensive crisis bordering stroke and cardiac problems due to taking a medication which was inappropriate for them. Also there are some types of migraine which are not recommended for the new migraine wonder drugs, ie. Hemiplegic and basilar artery migraines.

There are many non medication methods which are beneficial also, such as biofeedback, and acupuncture.

Seek the assistance of your primary care clinic and if no improvement a specialist in headaches.

As a fellow migraine sufferer, I wish you the best.

Hi Smither, poor you. I assume you get headaches at other times too.
1 Take regular breaks from the computer and be near natural day light if poss
2 Drink lots of water thru the day, dehydration is a huge cause of headaches
3 Do neck stretches and shoulder rolls, this prevents the build up of lactic acid
4 Have a neck, back and head massage, costs from £18.00
5 Get your eyes tested, it could be eye strain
6 Make a record of when you get the headaches, it can be certain foods or Caffeine.
Let us know how you get on and good luck!

It depends where in your head the headache is...
A headache around the forehead or behind the eyes often indicates neck tension. (get a massage or do it yourself)
Headaches in the back of the head are usually related to vision or tiredness. (go see an optician or get some sleep)
Headaches across the centre of the head (ear to ear) are commonly caused by dehydration. (drink more water)

Take regular breaks to relieve eye strain. Walk outside and look at green if you can. It is very healing to the eyes.

Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.

Go to the opticians and explain, my friend has this. You'll need glasses for estigmatisms or long-sighted. Or you may just need reading glasses. Get it sorted straight away though, you don't need any unecessary medication.

I get them the best thing for me is to put this roll on thing on your head called "Forehead" or something you can get it in chemists and supermarkets like Tesco its actually good and small and handy. If not you can get these cold strips that you put on your head but thats not very good if you are going out in public thats more for at home.

Hope it helps.

Have your eyes checked. You may not even be aware of it but with your eyes being strained, you may find that you need glasses.
