At first you will be welcomed to istanbul like every tourist,no worries :)

The weather will be hot and a bit humity so get ready to be sweety :(

istanbul has a unique style that includes Ottoman and Byzantion culture both in cuisine and in buildings. You have tons of historical places to visit like : Hagia Sophia,Sultanahmet Mosque,Topkapi Palace,Yerebatan Basilica,Dolmabahce Palace,Galata Tower and much more...

When it comes to shopping, you lots of shopping centers to visit.Akmerkez,Kanyon,Metrocity,Cevahir,Bagdat street and istiklal street are the must visit places in istanbul if you are planning to shopping.

And the last thing never leave istanbul without having a bosphorus trip.

have a nice trip with your family in istanbul!

I was there last month and I just loved it. Now I only had four days so I didn't really go into shopping malls but I did go on Istiklal Caddesi (a nice, wide and lively pedestrian street with brand name and designer stores and good restaurants - pretty reasonably priced) and the two bazaars in the old city of Sultanahamet (Grand Bazaar and the smaller, tamer Arasta Bazaar). Just so you know...the bazaar environment can be quite intimidating for the uninitiated...so here's some advice...the merchants are very pushy so don't be afraid to say "I'm not interested" or use a forceful "no" and leave. Do a quick scan of the store or stalls and if nothing really catches your eye don't linger - you'll just waste precious time. Finally if you do decide to purchase something....bargain, bargain, bargain...never accept to pay the price on the tag...aim for 30-40% less than the original price.

Oh and it is customary for merchants during negotiations or after purchase to offer you apple tea...don't worry it's safe and delicious. Just a few more notes on the bazaar - most jewellery, if they say it's gold, then it's gold...but make sure you also ask for a stamped certificate detailing your jewellry purchase before you leave the store.

Okay, weather - mid to high 30s, but because it's on the water you quite often get a nice breeze which makes the heat more bearable.

Nice places: Definitely Istiklal Caddesi (as mentioned earlier) and Sultanahamet (the old part of the city) where all the major tourist attractions are: Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, and the Hippodrome. Of course if you want to see other nice parts of the city (like the area around Dolmabahche Palace) I would take a guided tour (probably the cheapest and easiest is to take the Hop-on, Hop-off tour of Istanbul - it's around $25-30 dollars per person) - in fact that is the first thing you should do when you arrive.

In any case, the people there are very friendly and helpful and many of them can speak some English so if you do get lost you'll find someone to point you in the right direction.

Just be careful when crossing or walking in the streets - traffic is a mess there. If you don't feel comfortable, take a taxi - from Taksim (at the end of Istiklal Caddesi) to Sultanahamet it's about 10-11 YTL (about $8-9) - so not too bad.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi Mina,

For shopping, Kapali Carsi (Grand Bazaar) is the best.
Istanbul's Grand Bazaar (Kapali Çarsi, or Covered Market) is Turkey's largest covered market offering excellent shopping: beautiful Turkish carpets, glazed tiles and pottery, copper and brassware, apparel made of leather, cotton and wool, meerschaum pipes, alabaster bookends and ashtrays, and all sorts of other things.

Most guidebooks claim that it has 4000 shops. Because of consolidation and replacement of shops by restaurants and other services the number is certainly lower, but you get the idea: it has lots of shops. Not all of them, by the way, are for tourists; locals shop here as well, lending a welcome dose of authenticity.

About weather, Nowadays really hot,

Saint Sophia and Sultanahmed Mosque, You must visit both of them ...

Have Fun and Welcome
