No. Vietnamese just wanted to be left alone, Chechens want to force their religion on everyone and kill people who dont want to believe it

The USA has never encountered an equivalent of Chechnya. maybe the Indian wars bear some similarity, but these lacked the international support Chechnya's receive from Muslim countries.
However, Chechnya is a fore teller of things to come, where Muslim communities, surrounded by Non Muslims, will employ terror tactics to achieve independence.

No, Afghanistan was the Russian equivilent. Chechnya is an unprecidented foul up.
In Vietnam we were defending an friendly nation from a hostile takeover by a Dictatorship. In Afghanistan the Russians were the Dictatorship.

They are so seperate they are like chalk and cheese.
The Russians were fighting on their own doorstep and the Americans were involved in Foreign affairs.

Not even close, Viet Nam does not share a border with the USA, and their people never carried out any attacks on American soil.
