If you're interested in the biblical answer, it's in Job starting at Chapter 38. It goes on a bit (the first 37 chapters are just the question), but you won't find a better explanation.

Maybe go a step farther, Look at how the Old testament describes sin,
Sin is like mud or water, it gets on stuff, in stuff, its in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat.
If the question is along the lines why do bad things happen to good people, the question contains the answer....they're aren't any "good" people "for all have fallen", "no man comes to the father except through me"
If the question is why doesn't God help more?
Why should he? He already sent his son to die for us what more do we want? To a christian to die is gain and this life is a blur in the scheme of eternity so what matters this life except that we hear and live the gospel. The right question is why doesn't God just end it all now why doesn't he allow us to get what we actually deserve death and hell.
Thanks be to God he does what he does.
Good Luck and God Bless

God hears all prayers and answers all prayers. He may not always answer them in the way we want or expect. God is God, and His ways are not our ways.
Nothing in this life happens by coincidence or accident. It all has a purpose. Yes, sometimes it's hard for us, with our limited knowledge and limited vision, to see what that purpose is, but it is there nonetheless.
As Scripture says, the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. A good parable to read in the NT about how God works in this regard is the Parable of the Weeds in the Wheat Field (Matthew 13:24-30):
24Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'
28" 'An enemy did this,' he replied.
"The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "
In this parable, the wheat represents the good and righteous, the weeds represent the bad and evil of the world. The enemy is Satan. The harvest refers to the Final Judgement. This is one reason why God chooses to let good and evil co-exist side by side for a time, until the Final Judgement.
God voluntarily chooses to put limits on His actions, and to answer petitions (prayers) of those who sincerely ask for His help. And He will respond in some cases as He sees fit, to actually change outcomes that He otherwise would allow to happen. This is why prayer "works".

Well, since the world is not strictly Christians and everyday we are shutting the doors farther and farther on God. The bad going on in the world was prophesied in the Bible in the Book of Revelation. God gave MAN authority over the earth. We are to blame for all the crap happening on the earth. God wants to help but we have to have the right atmosphere in order for Him to operate through us and that is Love,Joy and Peace.
What is happening in the world today is only because we are drifting further away from God's way of doing things, If we were all moving closer to God I might have to wonder. But when the world is moving farther away, you have to be a complete idiot to say God is to blame.
God gave us authority and He will not take it back, even though we all should be 100% sure He should. He can only help us if we consent to it and lay down our will and get into a state of being that He can operate in.
Take care and for your sake I pray God will bless you spiritually. Eternity is a long time to regret being stupid.

remember, God is not a saddist God.. he dun kill and enjoy in heaven.. in fact he feel very hurt.. because all living things are his creation.. his precious son & daughter. God has his purpose for everything that happen.. It's not up to human wisdom to understand . God is able to do all things... he isn't powerless.. diseases (Eg. Aids)are part of God punishment for adultery. Disaster happened because the end time is coming.. Jesus is coming back for e 2nd time to bring all his childrens back to heaven with him for eternity. Judgement for e whole world (all believer and non believer) ;) I believe if u are a christian, u shld know what end time means. We live in a sinful world. God give us freewill.. if not, why doesnt God make tis whole world whereby everyone is christian? isn't tt best? =D

A religious person would say he does but in ways you cannot see (God work in Mysterious ways)
An Atheist will say The invisible friend to Religious people cannot help because he does not exist out side the mind of a mad man!
I say why should he/she
This is like a science project to him/her and he is but an observer!
Don't ask what your god can do for you and mankind but how you can better your own life and help those who cannot!

Our dear God is helping and is always by our side. We do not understand his plans but he tells us that his plan is to save us from self distraction
We are made in his image. We are to be like Jesus, but through our sins we are not using the choices God has given us. We want to do everything our way without ever asking God if it is the way he wants us to walk.God our Father works in mysteries ways. Our help can come unexpectedly and totally different from the way we wished. If you accept Jesus, who died for our sins and rose to prove that all who love him will have eternal life. If we repent and ask for Forgiveness your sins are forgiven. What a wonderful, joyful expierence that will be.
The book of Job question more directly addresses this
Than any other book in the Bible. But this is not an easy question to answer. We assume that if we try to be good and obey God, he will reward us with riches and a long, good life. Job and his friends certainly thought this. But being a Christian doesn’t mean we won’t have to face any pain or suffering in life. Sometimes God may allow us to face problems and difficulties to help us grow in our faith. God is more concerned about our Holiness than our Happiness and would be there to go through our difficulties
Suffering is the consequence of our sin and not caused by God, but by the sin of a person with moral responsibility. Our Father sent his Son, Jesus christ to provide freedom from the cosequences of sin. If God always prevented us from sinning,or prevented the consequences of our sins then human goodnes would be mere programming and not true goodness. God did not cause suffering but given it a purpose.Through suffering we can learn patience, selfdiscipline, trust and many other virtus. When we suffer we can experience the love, compassion, and selfdenial of those who help us.When we help we find significance in our own lives as well.

LET ME ASK: Why did God intervene from having to send his son to die on a cross for dumb, little backstabbing humans, who fight against everything he is for and against his very own existence. Was Jesus not Innocent, Divine.
It starts out like this: Adam and Eve decided to eat the forbiden fruit so that their eyes may be open. They did what they were told not to do.
This world does what it has been told not to do. It is addicted to the forbiden fruit. We have inherited Adam and Eve's curse.
It would not make any sense for God to stop and intervene in ALL of our problems. When people ask these kinds of questions they have not stoped to think about their questions deeply. They don't want to see the whole picture and they have trained themselves to blame someone, so they choose to blame God...who they sometimes claim don't even exist. VERY sad.

Will my first girlfriend died.... why didn't God let her live longer? Well.... Maybe because he just couldn't wait to be with her? But what point is there in God sparing something from death? Everything dies eventually. I don't pray to God to stop suffering or death because those things are natural in this temporal world. Even the stars will perish. Why pray for a delay to the inevitable?

Your answer is good. I will give you the answer my husband told me when I asked him the same thing.
God gave us free will. We can do and think what we want. He hopes we will be like him, but we have the choice not to. He doesn't know what we will do with our choices, but knows the outcomes of each path. He does not interfere, but is there for guidance. The fact that the human race is killing themselves, that is part of our fate. We are destined to destroy ourselves.
Christians are now being tested, and will be more in the near future. The test is to see past the obvious. I keep thinking of the reporter who denounced God for his life last year when he was captured. Or Carl Sagan, scientist of evolution, of said to God he was sorry, his life works meant nothing on his death bed. Both instances fear was involved, both knew they were going to die, and did what they thought they had to do to move on.
