My nephew currently lives with me in Cali. He lived in Texas until his father (a tech-sgt in USAF) was brutally murdered. He's almost 18 and about to graduate high school. His plan: Return to Texas to stay with my daughter (his cousin) and her family once he graduates which should be very soon.. My daughter husband in 2 yrs in with the Army and due to be deployed to Qatar in a few months. After that, my daughter, her children and my nephew plan to return to Cali til her soldier returns from duty. Now the question is... What will Ft. Bliss housing require from my nephew or daughter in order for him to stay with them . He'll be 18 on Nov 1st and should be done with school by then. His military ID expires at 18, does he need a state id and who should my daughter speak with to arrange his stay on her side. Any info is appreciated. Thank You

One, in order for him to retain his ID card, he needs to be a "dependent" of your son in law. This is done by son in law claiming him AND the nephew being enrolled FULL TIME in college. Have your son in law check with his S1 for more/better information.

Two, once your daughter moves back to California, she will have to give up her government housing, and your nephew will not be allowed to stay there. Have your son in law check with housing for more/better information.

First it depends how long he is going to stay with her. Eather way he will need some sort of Id like a drivers LC. Or state ID to get on the base and stay as their visitor. If he is staying for several months they need to contact the housing office and explain the situation and ask them. ALso what the other person told youo about becoming a dependent that is true and he explained it very well.

It really varies from base to base and month to month. If it's PCS season, it might go pretty fast. Winter... usually not so much. We've waited as short as 2 days and as long as 3 years! You won't find a 1 bedroom. You'll be put on the 2 bedroom wait list. And, there's nothing wrong with finding a place in town to live. We've only actually lived on base a few times in his career. Most of the time we just live in town.

he can't. he is not a bona fide dependent of your daughter and therefore ineligible to stay in MFH. . In fact if he was staying with her before then, your daughter was violating housing regs. Guests are normally limited to no more than 30 days, and that requires written notification to the housing office.

In any event, he loses ALL privileges the day he turns 18 unless he is a full time college student.
