Much of Ed Geins history could fall on his families religious beliefs. His father was an extremely abusive alcoholic, but his mother would not consider divorce due to their religion. And as he grew she also became extremely abusive, including punishing him in horrible ways for basically being human, she once poured scalding water on him when she caught him masturbating. I guess score one for Catholics somewhat twisted ideas about human sexuality. When one looks at his upbringing, including the religious element,it's not really surprising he grew up to become as twisted as he was. The real miracle would have been if he had grown up to be normal.

No.

Wikipedia says his mother, Augusta, "was a fanatical Lutheran." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Gein

Unfortunately there are a few fanatics in all religions.

With love in Christ.
