Why are Jesus and Horus so similar? I just ran into the chart at http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa5.htm. It confuses me, any explanations?
OK OK fine I'm an atheist but pretend I wasn't. Still explain it so I can understand why it isn't a big deal/true, others can know why, and you can know why.

Jesus and Horus appear to have little in common.
Horus was NOT born of a virgin, one ancient Egyptian relief depicts his conception by showing his mother Isis in a falcon form, hovering over an erect phallus of a dead and prone Osiris in the Underworld.
The Dec 25 issue is of no relevance to us--nowhere does the New Testament associate this date with Jesus' birth at all - it was the date of a Pagan festival which the Roman church grafted onto their version of Christianity.
When Horus dies Isis brought his body back to Egypt, but Seth managed to get hold of Osiris's body again and cut it up into fourteen parts, which she scattered all over Egypt.
Then Isis went out to search for Osiris a second time and buried each part where she found it (hence the many tombs of Osiris tht exist in Egypt). The only part that she did not find was the god's penis, for Seth had thrown it into the river, where it had been eaten by a fish; Isis therefore fashioned a substitute penis to put in its place. She had also had sexual intercourse with Osisis after his death, which resulted in the conception and birth of his posthumous son, Harpocrates.
This is not even remotely similar to the death and resurrection of Jesus!
Horus did not have 12 disciples, scholars can only find references to FOUR semi-divine followers called the "HERU-SHEMSU" plus SIXTEEN human followers plus an UNNUMBERED group of followers called mesniu/mesnitu ("blacksmiths") who accompanied Horus in some of his battles
Horus is NOT the sun-god (that's Re), so we cannot use the 'all solar gods have twelve disciples (the Zodiac) argument.
Horus was buried in a tomb? Yep - 14 pieces of him buried in 14 different places in Egypt - that's really similar to Jesus!
Horus becomes "merged" with Re the Sun god, after which he 'dies' and is 'reborn' every single day as the sun rises. Jesus died and was reborn once.
Horus was the Way, the Truth, the Light, the Messiah, God's Anointed Son, the Good Shepherd. These are characteristics you would expect of the son of God - it doesn't prove Horus WAS those things.
Horus performed miracles and rose one man, El-Azar-us, from the dead? No record of this in scholarly literature.
Horus Horus' personal epithet was "Iusa," the "ever becoming son" of "Ptah," the "Father."? No record of this in scholarly literature.
Horus was called "the KRST," or "Anointed One," long before the Christians duplicated the story? Anointing of religious figures was a common practice, but NO record that Horus was called "the KRST," or "Anointed One,"in scholarly literature.
The alleged similarities are so weak and so dwarfed by the differences between the two figures, as to leave us wondering why anyone brought this argument up in the first place unless Atheists have been reduced to grasping at straws to try and discredit the historical Jesus.

First of all, the "religioustolerance" website is anything but. It is run by an atheist and two neo-pagans, and many of it's articles on Christianity are contested.
Secondly, I'm a fan of Egyptian mythology, and the Horus=Jesus myth just doesn't hold up. Horus is the son of the egyptian goddess isis and her husband osiris. He is considered the egyptian god of light, mainly because he took on the position of Ra, the sun god, after battling the chaos god set for the throne of heaven. This ancient egyptian myth bears little resemblance to the life of Jesus when taken in contemporary standard.

I guess I don't see too many "similarities" here. I read about Horus on Wikipedia, and saying that the mythical Egyptian god is similar to the flesh and blood person of Jesus, who lived in a specific historical time and place, and who's actions are recorded by many chroniclers, is a bit of a stretch, IMO.
My advice - spend less time on Horus, and more learning about Jesus. Your "confusion" will be lessened somewhat.

Christ is a cosmic event, the spirit of Christ entering this universe set up ripples throughout time. Jesus was not the only point of Christ revelation, each of us are. We all are because he said we're in him.
John 14:20
At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
He didn't say he'd move into you! He said you'll realize he's been there the entire time. In absence of a Jesus figure Horus just became enlightened, so did Buddha, so will you.
Do not judge one another, love one another.

they along with numerous others fit into the format of ancient astrological myth ...just what the religious leaders had in mind is a mystery to me but what you say is evident . if you lie long and hard enough to people it will eventually become their truth . Horus was prior to Judaism which copied 95% of it's religion from the Egyptians and then it was passed on to Christians .

Easy - someone perverted the Word of God. In other words, Horus is like a bad, cheap counterfeit one hundred bill.
