The only person i ever met, i arranged to meet in a local coffee shop and made it clear that i would not be alone, my daughter came with me, he arrived with his mum. We both felt safe.

If and when you meet someone off the internet , you MUST meet in a public place where you feel safe and secure. Being somewhere public will also make you feel more comfortable and take some of the stress out of meeting a new person.
Remember on the internet everything you know about a person is only what they tell you and they could tell you anything. People hide behind being who they would want to be and how they would like to look. You do not benefit from natural first impressions , body language and interaction.
There are also a lot of genuine people like yourself online but it always better to be careful than sorry

My strong recommendation would be to meet in a public place until you get to know someone AND to make sure that a friend or family member knows that you are meeting someone and where.
People you meet on-line can be very different when you meet them in person. A good strategy is to arrange a shortish tryst the first time you meet - a coffee for example. If you like the person and feel comfortabe, you can extend it, if not a natural departure point won't be too long in coming. I'd also suggest that you make arrangements to 'check in' with someone you trust both when you meet your date and if you go on anywhere - any decent contact will understand and respect you for doing so, but alarm bells should ring if he doesn't.

Always meet in a public place, people can be very different from how they come across on the internet. Obviously they're going to try to make you trust them and tell you what you want to hear but the only way to know for sure is by meeting them in person but never invite them to your house....meet in a pub or something, tell a friend what you are doing and take your mobile (with full battery and credit)

No... NEVER meet strangers other than in a public place where there are a lot of other people...
Sure you can meet at a place you both mutually agreed but it has to be a public place.
Internet-friends are still real life strangers... you do not know them in real life... You need to get to know them like how you start to know your real life friends... & you don't meet your real life friends the 1st time in your private house or something.

first of all if you really are going to meet them then yes, definatley do it in a public place, its ok for people to say that it turned out ok for them coz they "followed their heart" but its not the same for everyone, if you want to meet this person, there is nothing wrong with that, just make sure it is a mutual decision and in an agreed public place, if it is ment to be, then you wont have to follow your heart, it will still happen

Definitely meet in a public place because anyone could say they're something they're not! Just meet for a coffee to begin with so you can see for yourself what they're all about.

you must meet in a public place, if they don't agree then don't agree to meet. Also if you can tell someone where you will be just to be on the safe side

Very unwise. If you are going to meet someone then you should do it in a very public place.
Always tell someone where you are going.
Always take your mobile phone with you.
Make it a brief meeting,say an hour,so you can leave if they make you feel uneasy.
Be careful & trust your instincts.

seriously hunnie dont meet him where he wants get meeting him in a public place he could be anyone and he could be some sort of physco hunnie please be careful no matter how nice he has been,one of my friends met a guy off the internet and she met him near his place she did not know that he lived so close and he brought her back was really nice and i even chatted to him and he sounded really genine as can be he ended up raping her,please just meet some where you know and make sure its public hunnie..take care..be safe ...melanie xxx
