I would agree with bowhunter on this one except on doubting the quality they have a life time warranty

A Taurus .38 is quite cheap, not too bad on accuracy and has a punch to it! In general cheap is not a good word to use when looking for a pistol. You want something that is reliable, accurate and wont break or get jammed easily, I would stay off the semi/automatics as they jam a lot, or go for the Beretta 9mm if you must. I prefer my old revolver I had in SA, a Webley and Scott snub nose 38 with open-barrel mechanism.

Hi Point, you can buy the .45 for $129.95 or the 9mm for $119.95.(at least here in Montana at Big R) I own a .45 and have shot around 200 rounds through it without any problems, but it will not shoot cheap ammo such as PMC.

my Lienad/cobray 410 bore/.45 Long Colt double barrel break action derringer.sells for $85 brand new and works very reliably. the d@mn thing kicks like a mule and is hard as heck to hold on to due to it's small size.it is fun as hell to shoot though.

A broken one you may find at a garage sale. Do you really want to hold something in front of your face that could harm you, spend the money for a good quality firearm.

You can find cheap guns at a pawn shop selling H & R [Harrington/Richardson] or NEF [New England Firearms] people have pawned. Typically for less than $150.

I would vote for the Lorcin .25 ACP. An inexpensive jam-o-matic.

Maybe a Rock Island Amory or a Norinco. They sell out the door for under 400. Of course, they are crap.
Used pistols will sell, or can sell for cheaper. But then you never know what you are buying.
