I also live in the not so gun friendly state of California. The stock I'm looking at is the Dragunov one.

I have my SKS in a Dragunov ATI stock.. If I had an Original Russian SKS I would leave it the way it was imported and also you living in California I would leave it the way it was imported for sale...

My condolances on living in california, a real bummer. As for the stock; take a look at the Ramline offerings; they make a nice monte carlo style stock which is a good fit in all respects. You might also try putting some correct thinking politicians in place to turn you into a more american down home type of state instead of what california has become.

If you want to change it; do so, but keep all original parts safe and hang on to them, they will retain the value of your gun should you ever decide to sell it.

To be completely honest, I really haven't found any aftermarket stock that I liked. I also tend to be a purist and like them in original configuration.

Choate and ATI make some stocks, you could look at these and see if you like them.
