Not sure if anyone here has taken much astronomy but space is big. Beyond comprehension big. The earth is a completely incosequential spec in a nowhere galaxy.

Why did god need to create more stars than there are grains of sand on earth? Why would he need other planets at all for that matter? Doesn't it seem like overkill to create all of this for his "chosen people"?

Please no god works in mysterious ways thoughtless answers. Do you have any rational suggestions?

Due to the nature of your question, I am taking it that, for sake of the argument, we may assume that God is real.

If you are asking for a scientific reason, I would have to resort to the laws of astrophysics; and obviously God could have made these laws any way he wanted, without necessitating the rest of the universe. So there is not practical reason, as I understand what you are asking for.

One possibility is that this is one of those "Tests from God" that my brethren seem to be so fond of. By making a universe that some could interpret as not necessitating God, he is weeding out those with genuine faith from the nonbelievers and luke-warm believers. But this falls to the ever-popular "Why would God create people he knew would reject him" rebuttal.

But he may have done it to invoke an emotional response in us--to inspire awe in us.

I think of a quote from the TV show 'Babylon 5'--"The universe has given us a mystery; common courtesy says we must solve it." Your own statement suggests that even Atheists are still impressed by the awesomeness of the universe. And the more that we learn about it, the more fascinating it becomes for all of us. This is something that we will never know everything about, but never grow tired of learning more.

The undemanding certainty? guy knows he got here from his mothers and dads. guy knows he had a commencing up yet have not got self assurance the Bible answer on a similar time as others do have self assurance in God that created him and the universe. If yet another being around extra efficient than the God of the Bible the place is the information that he's extra efficient than God? won't be in a position to he smash what the present God did? Or what if there is not any different being extra advantageous than the God of the Bible that the Bible claims? And that the Bible speaks the certainty. God constantly became into and there is not any different like him in any respect. Be properly additionally.

God created so much for the same reason I need ketchup on my french fries: complexity. Can you imagine how boring astronomy would be if he only made one star? You look up at night and see only two stars alive. Can you imagine how boring life would be if there was only one channel? (Granted there's still nothing to watch) But the vashness of the Earth and even the Universe is what makes it so appealing. Something as simple as a leaf has within it thousands and thousands of cells made up of millions and millions of molecules made up of billions if not trillions of atoms. On the opposite ends, there are the same amount of leaves in the Earth that there are cells that make up one millions, if not billions, if not trillions. It's amazing and at the same time mind-boggling. Those same cells provide the means for the creation of oxygen for us to breathe and in the winter time create such beauty in the colors of autumn. God knew what he was doing. How did God know where to place all those stars which outnumber the grains of sand so that the Earth would spin just so? The answer is that such complexity borders on downright beauty of design. I belive that God encrypted the world, the Earth, the universe as a sort of playground and riddle for us to decode. I know how it feels to, in an instant, understand what caused what and it is the difficulty of the complexity of the vastness of life that creates the adventure that we all come to love.
We all need water to live, but did you know that a person can drown in less than one inch of it? All the vastness of the world is a balanced extreme which has the potential to destroy yet amazingly sustains life. Give God his due props.

That's the trouble with defining God. No matter how big reality is he has to be bigger and if you’ve defined him you’ve limited him.

God is outside space-time. He sees all of history past and future like we see a DVD except all at once. A cosmic event started this universe the details aren’t important at the moment. God doesn’t go around randomly creating things. God is the consciousness of the sentient beings of this universe (there has to be more than us) becoming aware of a unity between them (Einsteinian Universe Goddess awareness that early Christians called Sophia other groups have other names) and the dawning of the awareness and unity with an external consciousness (the Father).

All this was written out well over 2800 years ago by Zoroastrians whose priest were called "Magi." These are the same guys that brought gifts to baby Jesus in Mathew. Cosmic God is a tad bigger than the one worshiped by the majority of the worlds population. I'd quote some Gnostic and Zoroastrian scriptures that indicate other worlds but the ones that would trust those scriptures know them and the ones that don't know them don't care.

I dont believe in god in the same mystical form that many religions do but there could be several reasons. God did not create the universe the universe created him. Kind of like hiring a CEO to run a company :) He may not be the only god if you will. I am not talking about like mythology but maybe a sort of you run this galaxy and others run the others maybes thats why he seems to have to follow rules you know? Also we are not his only creations that would just be stupid. Why is it so hard to believe that he may have billions of worlds just like us that may even look similar.

You are right the universe is huge and unfathomable to us, mere mortal humans, we would never be able to see the completeness of the universe, and although to us it is unfathomable it is not to God who made all things, even to the smallest atoms, which also are like small solar systems, but all this shows on what a grand scale our God power and ability and the things hge can do, yes it might seem like overkill to you, butit is not overkil to God for you don't know what his plans are, but, the Bible says that there will be more creation that God will do, so how do you know that he has no reason to create such a big universe,
if you create something with your hands and mind, do you not envision the finished product, and work at it a bit at a time?So why would God need to do it all in one go?We were not the first and only things that God created, First God created spirit creatures like himself who live in heaven like he does, after creating the earth he created the animal world on it and then humans, now what makes you think that that's it, have a look at the diversity and veriety of living things on this planet, what about all the plant life, doesn't that show that God has neverending imagination for creating interesting things and life, all in unity and harmony?Humans are the only living things that are spoiling that harmony, he is not about to allow them to disrupt his work, and plans to keep everything harmoneous and in order of the way that he wants things to be, so he will not allow us to keep on disrupting the way that we are,no, he will intervene and bring about the way he purposed things in the beginning. So to see the big picture, we need to look to his Word the Bible if we are to have any understanding about his ways because it is in the Bible where he shows us what his purposes for mankind and the earth are.(Isaiah45:18)

Because the god thing is man made nonsense. We haven't a clue how the universe came to be and it is truly amazing because of that. Let's not 'cheapen' that amazement by pretending some god made it.
