I always hear Servicemen complain that they want to have a better life and want to join the Air Force. Is the Air Force easy? I want to serve my country and get the GI Bill for college, but I don't want it to be too hard. The Air Force recruiter told me that the Air Force life is very simple and boot camp is easy "Like High School Football camp".

2 Days ago, I got an Air Force Reserve brochure and it talks about a 16 year ARMY veteran or joined the Air Force. He quotes "It's like a breath of fresh air". I think I'm leaning toward the AIr Force.

They still do a lot of yelling in boot camp and believe me it's not easy. It's 16 hour days for the first 7 weeks. (First week doesn't count in boot camp) When one goes over seas one must go for at least 15 months. (Many times 18 months) If you go to a SAC base it's Rules!! Rules! Rules!.... but it's clear cut so one knows what to expect. Many do not like SAC duty but for me I liked it. Remember this, the Air Force takes only the best. They have very high standards. If one can't make the Air Force they try Navy....If they can't make the Navy they go Army....next is Marines. By the way....I made the Air Force by one point. Close call. However, I ended up going into the Navy after I did my 4 years in the Air Force. The Air Force has one main goal.....To keep those planes ready to fly night and day......any hour.....believe me when I tell you this....The stress will be with you and it can be long hours but there are many times you will feel pride in what you are doing. Remember they only take the best.....So come on in!!

If you arent looking for a challenge then don't join the military at all it will eat you up. The air force treats its people better then other services. But everything comes down to what your job is. If you are command post then you will sit in an office all day answering phones and it will be just like a regular job. If you are security forces or something like that then it will be long hard hours with lots of deployments and it will suck. My job for example was EOD and we deploy a lot and we deploy under army command now so its just like being in the army. As far as boot camp goes its the shortest, like 6-7 weeks but it sucks. If you go into it thinking its a walk in the park it wont be. A lot of people come into boot camp with that attitude and then in the first 5 minutes realize they made a huge mistake. All boot camps are the same really, it doesnt matter. a bunch of ******* yell at you all day make u do stupid stuff blah blah b lah. air force is just shorter so it seems better. Just think about the choice before you do it.

I wouldn't say AF BMT is like "high school football camp."

While its not as long as the others, it doesn't mean its not an intense experience.

There are several jobs in the Air Force that can be as high speed as any of the other branches. Yes, the Air Force will have nicer facilities, usually, and it can feel more like a family friendly environment, but I honestly feel like you can find that in any service.

So, good on you for wanting to serve your country. But realize, its a difficult journey to become a servicemember.

We don't wear the uniform for nothing.

It is easier than being a grunt in combat! They treat their people better, they have better facilities, and they get more time off!

Their are still some tough jobs in the Air force, but unlike most of the other services, most have a civilian counterpart, so you know there will be a market for your skills!

The rest have to join Blackwater! Who else has job offerings for those who only know how to survive in a war, and how to kill people. There are few, if any, counterparts for an Infantryman!

Apparently, the Air Force treat their own better.
