Insomnia can be horrible. It sounds like you have not dealt with it before so perhaps there are a few things causing it. Do you have a lot on your mind or recently go through something that was traumatic and is stressing you out? Or do you perhaps have a lot of stimuli around you at all times like, TV, computer, music playing, pets, etc? Are they on while you should be trying to go to sleep? All of these things can cause insomnia. There are plenty of meds you can take to help get yourself to sleep but I don't recommend that route since it can become addicting. If you do decide to take a pill, I would recommend starting with Tylenol PM. It works and it is the least addictive option out there.

It is possible that you will just have problems with sleeping. I know a LOT of people who can't get to sleep and when they do, it isn't for very long. We tend to just learn how to cope with it and just get some sleep whenever we are able to.

Good luck!

The more you obsess about not getting enough sleep and worry about it, the harder it will be to get the sleep you need. Really there is nothing to worry about, we all go through this at one time or another. Your body will get the sleep it needs one way or the other. Don't take naps and make your bed for sleeping only. Get some exercise during the day. There is also an amino acid that will aid sleep. Amino acids make up protein, it's something our bodies produce naturally. Eat an apple with cheese, drink warm milk, eat turkey, these all have tryptophane, (spelling?), in them and this is one of the amino acids that will help. Melatonin (spelling?) is a tablet you can get at health food stores which also aid in normal sleeping patterns. However you are really better off eating the foods I mentioned as it's always safer to get nutrition needs met with food rather than pills.

Alot of times the effects of sleep deprivation after one night are things like mental fog, confusion, irritability, memory trouble, nausea...after a couple of days of sleep deprivation people can start to see things and hear things that aren't there but more than likely unless you are forcing yourself to stay up that long through some unnatural means, you will pass out before that happens. There are alot of good rememdies for sleep deprivation. Try looking up insomnia cures on google and you'll find alot of great stuff there more than I have time to write on here.

Insomnia usually doesn't kill you, but it sure doesn't add to your good health and pleasant nature. Turn off the TV about an hour before you go to bed, stay away from all caffeine drinks, and buy a copy of The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. That book is guaranteed to put anyone to sleep.

Minimize ur leisures and hobbies, getting addicted to these consumes ur time including ur rest time. Try reading books that never get ur interest, then u will fall a sleep.
