Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows any great ideas on how to make a ceiling look like it has beams in it, but not actually put up those huge, heavy beams.

I want to put it on an existing ceiling, so it isn't like they can actually be built in. Besides, I don't want something so heavy hanging up there when it isn't built in.

So, how can I do it? I would prefer a way that is relatively low cost and that could possibly be done myself, but I could get someone to help me if I needed more than 2 hands.

Thank you and I will look forward to finding out what information there is on this.

Below are two websites for that. They are called faux beams.

I was recently in a property where they had the most wonderful beams, complete with square headed iron bolts. They turned out to be made of polystyrene, and weighed about one pound, they were positiond with adhesive and affixed directly on the old ceiling. Even standing on steps and examining them I was still impressed, as it was impossible to say if the were genuine or fake.
They even had gouge marks, and hatchet marks as found in old genuine beams.
