Every rule has an exception and everyone agrees with the rule, until you bring up the concept of "freedom of religion". For some reason, Americans believe that this is the only absolute in the universe.

Making "freedom of religion" an absolute assumes that no substantial differences can arise between any religion such that the survival of the state could be put in jepordy. However, we already know this is false. Islamists have a very literal and uncompromising view about the commingling of religion and state.

Consider the Phillpines. Despite a democratic system where Islamists have a say, a full fledged Islamic insurgency continues to terrorize the country and demand an Islamic state. Its just not something they are willing to compromise. The only substantial difference between the Philppines and America is one of proportion (they have more Muslims).

Its simply a matter of critical mass. Once there is enough of them to create change...here comes shariah law.

Well in early times, when Americans first came to this country they wanted freedom of religion, and they set up that statute, but they disliked anything that was different, because the main religion was Christianity, for example the Salem Witch trials, what they basically saw was everything in black and white, you are either Christian, or a follower of the devil(pretty dumb, I will agree) but there have been large steps from that time period, and now Freedom of religion has an actual viewpoint, and people in the U.S. can practice any religion they please...

Not all Islamists are intolerable of other religions. You mean the extreme or radical Islamist.
There are also numerous Christian sects that teach that their particular brand of Christianity is the only one that will be accepted by God. All others are damned. Part of Christianity is to go and convert others.
Christians dont seem to be as lawless and violent in their beliefs as do the radical Islamists making the news BUT we have had our abortion bombers, cults etc..
Its a dangerous game when in order for one group to be right everyone not of that group must be wrong. But thats the "belief/faith system that seems predominant.

What planet are you living on ?

Some Christians make so many exceptions to the freedom of religion rule, that what it boils down to is that they want freedom of religion for ONLY Christians.

For decades Senate was opened with CHRISTIAN prayer, and the Christians cried "Freedom of Religion" ONE Hindu led a Hindu prayer, and suddenly, there was an exception to freedom of religion.

Right wing Christians DEMANDED that public school distritbute fliers for Christian Bible camps. They cried for "freedom of religion". When Pagans and atheists started distributing fliers in THE EXACT SAME MANNER, then TWO exception for "freedom of religion were made".

Hey M - That lawsuit was dropped and school officials deny all allegations.

Group drops suit against teachers

WILLIS (AP) - A federal lawsuit accusing Willis school district teachers of confiscating and throwing away Bibles and ordering students to remove religious book covers has been dropped by the legal watchdog group that filed it.

District Superintendent Kay Karr said in a written statement Thursday the lawsuit was voluntarily withdrawn by Florida-based Liberty Counsel and that "students of Willis Independent School District have not been told they cannot bring Bibles to school, and Bibles were never thrown into the trash."

Mathew Staver, a lawyer with Liberty Counsel, said the lawsuit's withdrawal was an attempt to avoid a court battle and reach a mutually satisfying agreement between the parties involved.

Staver said the action was based on a promise from district officials that they would work toward adopting federal guidelines on religion in schools.

The lawsuit accused Lynn Lucas Middle School teacher Sara Flottman of throwing away the Bibles of 15-year-old Angela and 13-year-old Amber Harbison and threatening to have the sisters taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

The lawsuit also alleges that a teacher required Jeremy Pasket, 13, and two other students to remove book covers with the Ten Commandments printed on them.

Staver said if progress isn't made in two weeks he will refile the lawsuit, which was originally filed in U.S. District Court in Houston. "

I think this story is another fabrication, like so many other fabrications. If this really happened, this group would not have dropped the suit.

I think that the whole "freedom" thing mainly concerns freedom from Christianity. A student had her book cover with the Ten Commandments on it removed by a teacher and thrown in the trash. The teacher called it "hate speech." On the other hand, U of Michigan is installing foot baths for the muslims who need to wash their feet before praying. The ACLU won't touch this one, saying that anyone can use the foot sinks to wash off. What a load of dookie.

It seems to me you are only guessing . In your contention what you have said are not true. It only shows your ignorance about America and the Philippines..In the Philippines, the terrorist are muslims who are engaged in kidnapped for ransom but there are only few of them. It is also happening in America, the terrorist there are most of those who hate the American President. Their mission is to destroy.

Most people in the Philippines are christians and there are only few muslim terrorist who rob and steal and kidnapped peace loving people. They fight the government for their own welfare, and of their satanistic attitude.

The freedom of religion is embodied on the Constitution of one country. You have the right to chose your own religion which you like but without to the extent of going against the law of the government. A supposed true religion is not against the rule and law of the state. A religous man should abide with the rules and law of the country where he belongs aside from abiding with the law of God. You study your government, the government of the Philippines and the government of America so that you will know what to say, not on the extent of guessing yet you are falsely stating things in this Section of yahoo.

Well, in Canada "freedom of religion" is highly regarded. However it does have an exception. That is, one can follow their religion as long as doing so does not hurt anyone around them. One can follow their religion but once doing to crosses the line into my personal space and infringes of my rights, freedom of religion can be trumped.
