How serious do Christians take some parts of the bible? For example, can we really not work at all on Sundays? Also, women were suppose to keep there hair long and down all the time. That is not the case at all today.

Also, if we as Christians are suppose to do everything in God's name, then is it alright if lets say we watch a tv show that has nothing to do with God, or listen to songs that aren't religious at all. Or if you're career has nothing to do with God is that okay? I mean I know it's unrealistic- we need factory workers, we need people to work at wal-mart, etc.

I just want to hear some other opinions about this...

The Bible says that ¨all scripture is inspired of God and beneficial¨, so all of the Bibles contents is beneficial for us to know.

Understanding the Bible in its fullest context though shows that the old testament was written showing the lead up to the Christ.
Since we now live AFTER Christs earthly presence and his sacrifice we are no longer under the laws of the Mosaic or Jewish systems of things.
Jesus did away with these things.

So if a person specifically follows the ten commandments or things like the sabbath Sunday (or Saturday) which are uniquely pre-Christian observances surely they cannot really call themselves Christians.

Our daily life practices should be guided by the perfect example provided by Jesus Christ.

When it comes to our choice in secular work Christians are free to do as they please as long as it
is lawful (not selling drugs) , moral (not a prostitute) , not participating in the government directly (not a president) and not going against the two commands of Jesus , that is , 'love God with your whole soul , heart and mind and spirit ' , , 'and love your brother as yourself.'

Doing all things in God's name implies not doing things Satan's way.
So whatever things that we may be doing , hiking , watching tv , dancing etc , it should be in a upright way that would not bring reproach back onto us or God.

this is not a simple question to answer because it is simple but yet complex at the same time and it requires a bit of knowledge of the bible and the history of it, but in a nut shell if we do not have the Spirit of God living in us and Jesus atoning for our sins we will not see heaven. Once we are "born again" we are a new creation and we begin to take on a new nature, however I leave you with this verse from the bible 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others... it sounds like we are free to do whatever we want and we are as long as our hearts do not condemn us. We are also not suppose to do anything that would make an unbeliever stumble, but it is very hard to live like that because many people have ideas of how a Christian should act or should not act..so the best I can say is live by the spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

The true day of the Sabbath falls on Saturday. The Catholic Church changed the holy day of worship. The ways of the Old Testament changed with the birth of Christ. That is why the New Testament begins with the time of the birth of Christ.

God does not want to engage in anything that is going to take our focus away from Him and His word. That includes tv and music. That also includes where we work and how.

The idea is that if we engage in acts that take our focus away, we are prone to sinful ways. We are not supposed to be materialistic for the same reason. We are not supposed to build up treasures upon the earth for the same reason. We are meant to be creatures of a spiritual being and get everything we need from God.

Those who are closest to God want to do nothing else other than activities that are a constant reminder. Not because they have to but because they choose to. They have vowed to God to rid their lives of all their sinful ways and that means, throwing out movies, music, clothing, food, etc. Anything they feel takes their focus away from the Lord. This is why there are faiths that forbid television. Music and other things.

We are supposed to strive to be God-like when we are born again.

Pick and choose is both good and bad. If what is being written about in the Bible in principle is good, true, and beautiful, timeless... suitable for all time in PRINCIPLE, and if it is something that resounds in your in heart and in your spirit as such, then certainly never throw out "the baby with the bathwater".

Cutting off one's hand if it offends is not God's way for example. How many Christians think they should? Of course, they do not think this is good and they do not do this, literally.

A true Christian (not necessarily a Bible believer or Book worshippers) would try to love God with all their heart and soul and mind and love others the way Jesus loves them. That's it.

Spiritual eyes, discernment, discernment...

I am not a Christian, Catholic, or any other similar de-
nomination. But I do find a few certain points in The
Bible--logic worth abiding by:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
(If you don't treat people well, you should not expect
them to treat you in a friendly--or even civil--manner.)

Always forgive.
(There is no reason to hold a grudge against some
one, regardless of what they might've done to hurt
you. None whatsoever--because there is plain and
simply NO PROFIT to be had by not forgiving.)

Do not use God's name in vain.
(Regardless of whether or not someone believes
in God, it's disrespectful and immoral to say things
like "God damn it"; or any other foul phrase with the
word "God" in it--or one which contains the word
"Hell.")

Other than that, though, I don't give the so-called
"Good Book" extremely high marks.
But, being an agnostic as opposed to an atheist,
I would never tell anyone that they're wrong to put
their "faith" in a "Holy Father."

Peace.

When you study the Bible, you need to make sure you keep things in context and read the whole book or chapter to get a full understanding. As for me,I believe the Holy Spirit will guide us and show us what is or is not pleasing to God.

i don't dislike Muslims. however the 1st verse you quote is for Jews, not Gentiles. the 2d replaced into not a command to amputate physique areas. The 0.33 replaced into in hassle-free terms a guideline that girls who stay in factors the place it incredibly is mistaken to wish or prophecy with hair uncovered could desire to conceal their heads. it incredibly is not a commandment to females to conceal up all of the time, in all circumstances. And the fourth is a guideline that girls shouldn't chatter together as researching in church. it incredibly is not approximately females having to stay silent all of the time. there are a number of cases in the Bible of girls coaching, preaching the gospel, ministering, and prophesying. What I dislike is human beings misinterpreting and twisting the Bible.

God says in the bible to follow his commandments and we will be given a place in heaven. Remember that Jesus was a carpenter, and knowing this he still was repented while at work, and didn't give into temptation on the job. I don't work as a pastor or ministor but as long as I obey the 10 commandments I know I am saved. God gave us a built in warning system called a conscience, and also called his conviction. If your conscience tells you that you are sinning, then you are. Use this to apply yourself to the bible, as long as you are in following his law this system will not fail you. This is only my opinion. Thanks

Asserting that the Bible's text should be used to guide our beliefs and actions is foolish. Even more so to say that it is the word of an omnipotent and omniscience God.

I don't condone killing innocent children, non-virgin women, non-believers, slavery, just to name a FEW things that are mentioned in the Bible.

alot of those rules were for the Jews not gentiles. (like what you've mentioned. id rather not work a Sunday but if i had to I'm quite sure God would understand knowing that while you live on earth you must have a job to take care of your home.

EDIT: the most important is how to be saved. once your saved you'll want to choose to obey and please Him.
