When our brain shuts off, isn't that when the rest of our world around us ceases to exist? I do it every night. And wake up the next morning. Don't you?

Brent. Are you sure? You can only be sure when you wake up.

Bruce, don't be a babbling brook. Instead of letting gibber flow around you, stand up, be solid and make a real heart-felt statement.

Tony and A1952. Wave. When death takes Them, really prevents thought, movement, ideas...will They have lost the ability to understand? Sadly, yes. Too late.

Whether or not you are dreaming can be measured by EEG. There is less activity when you are in deep sleep and not dreaming (REM). When you die, an EEG shows no activity. Thought has ceased forever. Without brain activity, there is no thought.

If my Creator exists, then I figure He has the power of resurrection.
The utter pointlessness of life ought to drive us to seek God but there is freedom in rejecting God for God would seek to guide our lives and we don't like that.
Very few atheists will deny the possibility that their Creator exists but you seem eager to hope there is no life after death. Why not have hope that you will again meet your loved ones, your wife, your children? So what if you do consider it a small possibility; aren't they worth it?
It seems to me that we have two choices:
1) Reject God and live an independent but pointless life continually striving to keep from facing that pointlessness, or
2) Seek our Creator even while not knowing for sure that He exists.

When life stops, it is as though we become unplugged. The one who can re-plug us in --if he wants to-- is God.
We are energy, and when cut off to our source,
we become only a memory.
"His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish." --Ps 146:4
"...There is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol [the grave/death], the place to which you are going." --Ec 9:10
Christ likened death to the unconsciousness of sleep, and that the majority of the dead will be re-awakened / resurrected after Armageddon.

When you die you enter a deep sleep. You know nothing or see, smell, taste or feel. You are laying in wait. When Jesus Christ comes to judge the living and the dead it is then when you arise to be judged. Every one will see each other again. It is only the true followers of Christ that will go on with Him...

Well, reality has been defined as that which exists whether one believes in it or not; I suppose that could be extended to be that which exists whether we are aware of it or not.
When you sleep, it is merely your perception of the world that ceases; the world goes on without you.

Remember this, the concept of a god or gods and the idea of faith or whatever, was created by man for man. Therefore wipe out man...you do the math!

Yeah, but your mind (not your brain) goes on to climb another higher perspective of reality. You begin thinking with your spirit, which, when you are still alive, defies any logical explanation. Your mind is not limited to your brain; it is in every cell of your body, in your thoughts. May the force be with you!
