When I first started to study with the missionaries I would try and find anything I could to disprove the Book of Mormon, I knew a lot that was in the Bible, being that I was raised by a Pentecostal minister. I knew how the Bible had talked about false prophets and in Revelations is says not to add or take away from this book. It seemed like that everything I tried to say was wrong an answer was found for it. The more I read the more I saw how alot of teachings were repeated, but I thought to myself, God is infalable and why wouldn't he teach the same things to His people? I did as the missionaries and Moroni ask of us, I prayed about the Book of Mormon. When I first started to pray about it I didn't recieve an answer, but I had this nagging feeling about the BoM and I needed to study. I would compare scriptures with what the Bible had to say and pretty soon I found that I had my own testimony of the Book of Mormon. So it is through the witness of the Holy Spirit that I gained my testimony that the BoM is the Word of God and not just some made up story(But you gotta admit if it is all made up there are some kick butt stories in there). Religion however is made to control society, but the teachings of Christ are here to help better us and to help us attain the highest level of Glory.

Mormon Doctrine (not the book) is one of those things that is very personal. I know it to be the word of God, but someone standing next to me may believe its religious propoganda, and I'm not threatened by that.

Loaded question:
it is the word of God that brings us peace and self-control.

Christ's teachings are the ultimate form of law enforcement because one who follows them is much less likely to be a burden on society, keeping them out of the judicial system.

Since the beginning of civilization, the priestcraft have used the threat of eternal punishment in order to coerce conformity of thought and action of the 'civilized'. Apparently religion comes with the territory, and is especially true of the Middle East religions beginning with Ba'el.

It's hard to make a blanket statement regarding exactly how religion controls society and culture, but it is pretty evident. Some religions remain low-key while others are in-your-face. The polytheism of the Greeks and Romans sustained those cultures for centuries, yet by mormon standards would appear to have been devised by Satan himself. Ancient Central American religious practices appear incredibly brutal despite the symbolism. I doubt the progeny of Laman are responsible.

Whether or not God has spoken is moot, but his faithful have claimed that they know what's god's will. That's still a frightening implication.

The lord has shown me my personal witness that it is his word. It's not Religious propoganda. I believe that Gordan B. Hinckley is called of God. Thanks for your concern.

I guess we still have some work to do since we couldn't brainwash you enough to stay in the Church. But we still have that tracking device in your head so the missionaries can still find you.
