Agreed. They typically separate the old testament as if it were an entirely different god that required burnt animal sacrifices, endorsed slavery, ordered the mass murders of woman and children, killed children for making fun of a prophet's bald spot... etc.
By any standards, Jehovah is a lunatic. "The worst character in all of fiction" is an understatement.
But Christians have mastered the art of cherry picking. And modernity has convinced them of the need to invent an entirely new god in their own post-enlightenment image. But instead of giving the credit to the enlightenment, they give the credit to the religion.

Honestly, a smart Christian would know that it is not their God even after reading the Bible. We can say this because of the new covenant with God, he's a more freewheeling dude now it seems. Additionally, any Christian with knowledge of the Bible knows that the Old Testament is mostly written in parables and whatnot. That was the style of Jewish writing at the time. Most are meant to be fictional stories that relate some moral to the reader. Everyone knew then that they were fictional, it's just that with time they came to be accepted as truth.

Most Christians pretend to read the bible. They carry it around like they're reading it, they have it in their houses like they're reading it, but when the smoke clears the only thing they really know about the bible is what family members, pastors, preists, or friends have told them. BUT there are some Christians who actually read it and know it. So i want tell all you Christians out there mindlessly believing, actually read your bible and then make YOUR OWN decision on whether a God exists or doesnt.

Why do I believe in a God who requires blood? Because God said that "the wages of sin is death" that is to say - anyone who committs a sin must die. Jesus died in my place. God said "the life of the creature is in the blood" - Jesus shed his blood for me.
God instructed to have animals killed because:
A) It was a somewhat significant sacrifice for a herding culture to kill a "spotless" animal for the Lord. That was like us giving up one of our cars... it was their wealth and their livelihood
B) God wanted to demonstrate that sin is serious - you can't just put a band-aid on it. Sin infects us and deeply offends the holy character of God. Picture how you feel when you hear about child abuse or rape, and magnify that times 100000 and you are getting close to the repugnance and anger God feels towards human sin. That is why blood has to be shed. God's justice demands it.
Regarding burning - we were created to be in a relationship with God - our hearts are fueled by the presence of the Lord - if he were to remove his presence entirely from us and eternally seperate us from himself, the result would be eternal torment. But God has offered a way of salvation: the cross of Jesus Christ. No one has to go to hell...
If it weren't for God, you wouldn't know that incest was wrong (until relatively recently when genetic diseases were more understood) - but back when Adam and Eve were created, they had perfect genetics with no mutations or flaws and incest was not dangerous.
Just because some Christians do not read the bible doesn't mean that none do!

Atheists, on average, know more about Christianity than the average Christian. Most atheists, at least in the US, were raised in Christian families. Even those that weren't still live in a nation where you can't get away from Christianity and its beliefs.
Religion is very effective at indoctrination, especially when imposed at a young age. For someone to break away from that, they have to really learn more about their own beliefs. This means studying Christianity to answer all the questions they have about it. Even after becoming atheists, they still get questioned by Christians and have, therefore, learned to answer them effectively.
Christians, however, are discouraged from reading their Bible honestly and expressing any doubt about what they read. They are discouraged from applying logic and reason to their religious beliefs.

Truth be told, we could all argue theology all day long for the rest of our lives...and we would just drive each other crazy...but you look a Christian in the eyes, whom God has delivered from the pits of despair..and you try and tell them it is not real...or better yet try and tell me it is not real...because I will tell you that you are wrong..I KNOW my God is real regardless of what you/any non-Christian thinks...
God gave people free will, he does not delight in sending people into hell...he does not need blood sacrifices anymore...Jesus took care of that. I have and I do read my Bible everyday..we just look at it through different eyes..You see sickness I see a savior...you see evil I see the greatest Grace and Love that I could ever ask for.

Have you heard the phrase "blood of my blood" or "blood of life"? This is why. We were created in God's image. We share His blood. The blood offerings of the Old Testament changed with the birth of Christ. Christ dying on the cross was the sacrifical blood of repentance God required to enter His kingdom. Sacrifical blood offerings were no longer needed. Jesus Christ was the replacement. All we had to do was believe in that offering and repent of the sinful nature we are prone to as human beings.
Everyone is given the chance. Of beings of free-will, we can choose to accept Him or choose to reject Him. We have been given the facts. We have been given the tools and spiritual guidance to learn the truth for anyone who really wants to seek it.
God did not come up with a plan of incest to populate the world. It became incest because of the original sin - that sin not necessarily being the eating of the forbidden fruit, but of the direct disobedience toward God. Once the original sin was committed, it became incest.
God knew what would happen. Remember, we are God's chosen children. Unlike His angels, we are given the choice to worship or not. God wants us to come to Him because we want to. Not because we have to.
For those out there who are parents, think about your children. Most of you would more than likely say that you do not require that your children love you, but they will respect you. And if they do not, what happens? They are punished.
God is not only perfect, He is just. Not something beings of sin would understand.
And you are right. There are Christians out there who do not read their Bibles. Unfortunately, as with all other cultures, a few "bad apples" have ruined it for the whole. We are supposed to read our Bibles as a way of gathering information and learning about the Lord and His ways.
Why do we believe in a book that has been "rewritten" over and over again by man when there could be human error? Why should we place our faith in something that has errors? The answer is....there are no errors in terms of the divine message.
While doing research into the history of the Bible, one would learn that the changes made to the Bible have been in areas of grammar and mechanics, puncuation for better and a more clear understanding to modern language. There are words in the original Hebrew and Greek translations that have no meaning in the English language. Words that are added for additional clarification are in italics.
The overall MESSAGE of the Bible has never changed. Think of it in terms of a history book in school. These books will be rewritten many times in order to clarify already existing information. The same scenario applies. The Biblical word was inspired by God and the message is, therefore, infalliable.
It is up to us to read and believe. It is what it is. All I can say is God exists whether you believe in Him or not.

I am a muslim and I read Bible to strengthen my belief. The same will happen to Christians. Should they read the Bible, they will start to question it's truth. They better not.

We Atheist have enquiring minds. Even those of us who were at one time believers probably questioned everything. Most of the churches that I have been in really don't teach the bible. They preach it and only pick out the parts they like.
